Roast Jasper Pittard

Pittard is slowly becoming my favourite player in the team and I will go as far as saying that he starts most of our comebacks.
Not long to go before opposition coaches will start tagging him to stop our run from half back.

Compare the Pittard of today to the player we saw in his first season. He played some pretty ordinary games to start with but he's made good progress in 26 games. He still needs to work on the defensive side of his game, but another pre-season under our coaching staff will help to sort that out. He'll muscle up more over summer and that will help him compete against bigger bodied opponents. I can remember how skinny he was when he first joined the club.

Leaving defensive skills aside, he has a lot to offer. He provides plenty of run from defense, has good speed and can weave through traffic. Those strengths have shone through in his games against St Kilda, Adelaide and Geelong.

In the last few weeks he's gone from costing us 3-4 goals a game to 1. It looks like he's playing a less defensive role which is for the best. Let's hope he continues to improve.

He's definitely a player that thinks through his plays, physically I think his only weapon is his speed. He's the type of player you need to nurse back into a team after injuries/dropped.

I think he's also benefiting from Broadbent taking the forward tag. Personally, I think his good defensively, good endeavour and effort but isn't strong enough and can't keep his feet enough. Hopefully both those things improve.

Butcher costs us 1-2 goals per game by missing. Same for Monfries.

O'Shea has cost us a career high of 4 goals in one quarter.

Chaplin cost us 80 goals a season when he was here, just look at the difference in goals against last year compared to this year. Prove me wrong.

While there are always a few goals directly attributable to individuals, I'm sure most see multiple players at fault. Maybe they need an opposite of the 'scoring involvements' stat. I'm sure clubs would have an internal, qualitative understanding of where their players are at.

Love his run and dash. Still not convinved he is a natural defender. Would love to see him play as a genuine, line breaking, goal kicking wingman (does that position still exist?)

Like 19th man assists per say?

I still do not see the wingman part.
His best runs all start from behind the play, as a wingman he will need to be in front of the play. Minor but significant difference.

Using made up stats to bolster your argument tends to have the opposite effect.

I never said it was a stat. I was highlighting that he cost us more goals previously, if I confused you by making you think I collect a stat that even Champion Data don't then I'm sorry - be my guest if you want to pack an abacus with your thermos this weekend and give it a go.

Maybe I should have said:

Having Jasper in the side tends to have the opposite effect of having a player that prevents goals being scored by the other team.

Either way, my comment was complimentary so relax.

I'm not going to give up on the lad just yet, but then again I don't really see him as a wingman.

His attack on the ball is his strongest asset at this point, in time his decision making will be (hopefully).

Jumping on a populist bandwagon one thinks.
we are playing crap.
he hasn't been the worst tonight.

No band wagon here

Also for the love of Port Adelaide, someone teach the kid how to stay on his feet when the other player fakes left or right.

He must be the easiest defender to shake.

Opposition Run left, fake right, Pittard falls over, opposition scores every time.

He isn't a defender... everyone agrees, but what is disappointing is his skill level. He can kick the ball nicely, but his handballing to feet or kicking/handballing straight into the opposition are killers.
