Kennett did say his main goal would be to find his successor. By coming back and becoming increasingly detrimental he's effectively drawn out his successor through necessity. In a way, Jeff Kennett, unintentionally, might give rise to a super board; he's assembling every big player within the Hawthorn family to take him down.
Kennett did say his main goal would be to find his successor. By coming back and becoming increasingly detrimental he's effectively drawn out his successor through necessity.
His best course of action to save face now is to act like it was his plan all along. Use his acquired power to replace any board member with the challengers, then abdicate the presidency to Silk.
Then he can Paul Roos it by saying he's set the club up for future success and that it's now in the hands of the board he has put in power by stepping aside to see things through. He'll then pop up every now and then to pat himself on the back when things are going well or to throw jabs when they're not.
He would rather have himself talking about Andrews on the front and back page of the little paper instead of talking about HawthornI laughed at this quote
“I respect the club, I respect the members,” said Kennett. “I hope that we can continue to talk to the candidates, where that might lead God knows. But I don’t want there to be Hawthorn on the front or back pages of the paper between now and Christmas.”
Sort of a throw back to 2005 when he promised to be a low key president
Someone needs to nominate against him as President - the fact that the Presidency is voted on by members as opposed to 'his' board would see him get the short shrift in no time. He is floundering, already trying to divide along party lines. Silly man.
Ayres too
Gowers was proposed as a board member by dual Norm Smith medallist and five-time premiership player Ayres, a teammate in the 1991 premiership, and will stand in what could be a rare contested election for the Hawks.
Ayres confirmed on Friday that he had nominated Gowers, as a long-time friend and former teammate, but also for his football acumen. “Andy had a part in two flags when he was footy director [on the board]
“Andy rang and asked if I’d help out ... I said ‘yes, I’m only too happy to.’
“As Hawthorn people, we want to see Hawthorn getting back to being as good as we can be.”
The Hawks for Change say that their supporters include Liberal Party members and supporters, too, in a counter to Kennett’s suggestions that there is a political party element to his opposition from Hawks for Change.
Five-flag Hawk backs teammate in challenge to Kennett board
Gary Ayres, a five-time premiership hero, has backed Andy Gowers’ bid for the club board, as Jeff Kennett says he will try to find a way to resolve any board issueswww.theage.com.au
Have they all come out and supported it? Haven't seen anything in regards to them yetSo we have the Langfords, the Stevensons, the Schwabs and the Gowers backing the change
This needs to be over swiftly and sorted before XmasI’d say the footy dept has its strategy, which should be insulated from this and allowed to play out
This quote is by far the best one.I laughed at this quote

.This quote is by far the best one.
“I don’t like the public debate,” said the Hawk president. “We are not Collingwood. We are Hawthorn ... this is not the Hawthorn way.”

This clown has continually taken any opportunity to comment publicly on anything and everything inside and outside the clubs interest, but now that his presidency has been brought into question he doesn’t like public debate!!!?
The sooner we punt him the better.
Yeah well, fancy allowing Hawthorn to dominate the pages when I have a running commentary on ****wittery happening."I don’t want there to be Hawthorn on the front or back pages of the paper between now and Christmas.”
Rich coming from this guy!

The reasons for no elections have always been to save the club moneyMy understanding is that because his term still has 2 years to go, unless he 1. resigns or 2 an extraordinary election is called he will remain in term.
I can't see 1 happening because of the way he is and I'm not sure we'd go done path 2. I hope we do though.
If you read the go fund me page it appears they're raising money for a long term battle and not an immediate challenge to Kennett. The reasons for no elections have always been to save the club money
I think raising money to hold an election suggests Democracy is important and his time is well and truly up
Morrissey on that candidate for change board I see ? Obviously still bitter that we haven't revoked or reliance on pokies for generating a surplus.
