Yeah, it's pretty ******* despicable for a president of the HFC to suggest relocation. No matter what game he thinks he's playing.

Imagine how quickly they'd have come for him if it was Garvey who said this?

Still hasn’t come out with further clarification...

Neither has Justin Reeves (apparently our CEO) who is an absolute Humphrey B Bear

I should add that’s it’s a ******* joke that a club like ours, still a powerhouse off the field and with more political clout than most of the comp has been reduced to the sort of conversations usually reserved for minnows - all because of Jeff’s comments.
Talkback radio is having a field day, polls and questions about whether we should move to Tassie, questions over our viability as a club, threads all over social media, Bigfooty even our own board asking what would happen if we move. The PR hit we’ve taken as a club due to these comments cannot be understated.

Not to mention value to potential sponsors

I’ve got to say that I’m surprised there’s been no further comment from Kennett or the club knocking it on the head and yes I know that will annoy the Tasmanian Govt. but seriously he should never have opened his mouth in the first place

I live in WA so there’s no noise about this over here - what’s the reaction from hawk supporters been like on the east coast outside of BF

Jeff’s a smart business man, he knows by saying we’d be happy to move to Tassie they’ll be happy to extend our contract to play home games there.
If he came out and said there’s no way we’d relocate to Tassie they’ll have a big sook and not extend our contract.
And Don Scott has put Hawthorn down too many times so I don’t even listen when talks anymore!

Why does threatening to relocate there, when Tassie wants a stand-alone team, force Tassie into extending our deal? If the Tasmanian government wants to deliver on a team based in Tasmania how exactly does giving them this objective panic them? The Tassie government isn’t stupid - if they have a report stating a team there would be an economic success then they wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth and say no to a relocated team. And again if this is a bluff with zero intention to actually move the team - why do you think Gutewin - a successful businessman and politician himself - is too stupid to know this?

I have asked this before. The vibe is ‘Jeff is smarter than the lot of you’. Plenty of people prepared to post this over and over, so here’s a challenge:

List the times Jeff’s apparent ‘genius’ commentary has helped hawthorn. It shouldn’t be hard, you posters are so damn sure of this ‘vibe’

So Jeff comments without referring to anyone internally? That's worse. He cant be trusted to deal with a subject hes "Map-Struck" about

What I dont like is the perception the club is desperate it needs Kennett and Tasmania. It most certainly doesn't

Piss off to tasmania and start your own club Jeff

Let’s remember this is the guy who offered his services as president of Melbourne fc

So Jeff is answerable to both the board and members but chooses to flap his gums like he is the owner of a US sports franchise. I’ve said it before - his position is untenable. He’s only hanging on because there’s no high profile candidate willing to challenge him.

Then this. More BS. I'm over it.

Agreed.

If Hawthorn “relocating to tassie” was ever to be in the news, you’d expect it to come from some halfwit like Kornes or Derwayne....but it was actually our president who put it on the agenda. 🤮

Was hoping that would be a lot stronger. We come out of this looking pretty pathetic tbh.

Why? He is head of football.
Jeff or our CEO would be making the sorts of statements I think you are looking for.

Agreed - it’s not in McCartney’s job description nor in his best interest to come out and strongly contradict the club president not even a week after being appointed to his present role.

Jeff's time is up, this is the final straw. If it is a political game, leak the relocation stuff through the media to put pressure on, not via our ****ing president. Once upon a time I loved Jeff, not now, the bad is outweighing the good.

Absolutely.

Then defer to the CEO for more comment.

If I’d just been promoted internally one of my first moves wouldn’t be to throw the club president or CEO under the bus. He has to work with these people and be seen as a team player - even if the club president presently isn’t. I don’t begrudge him handling it the way he did - it’s not his mess to clean up.

This might give the impression to people that 'where's there's smoke, there's fire'

"HAWK FOOTBALL HEAD TIGHTLIPPED AS RELOCATION TALK GAINS MOMENTUM!"

Spaeaking of awkward, how was Garry Lyon asking Dimma about matters marital?
Jeez, really??? 🤦‍♂️

Maybe they should change the station to SGEN...Sports Gossip Entertainment Network

My read on this is somewhat different and I’m only guessing but the afl have continuously offered financial backing to increase the number of games North play in Tassie and have lobbied to get us out. It shouldn’t be unfathomable for the Hawks to play up to 8 home games in the state until they are offered a stand alone side. The problem with that scenario is the afl want to push for Norths relocation and do not want to support clubs like ours who don’t need to feed from the teet of the afl to survive.

Why would we want to play 8 home games at a venue where we draw less than 12,000 (for 4 games) and where less than 10,000 of our 85,000 members reside?

How would we go attracting commercial partners and cotorie members when our offering includes 8 games in a tram yard next to the UTAS campus?

Nothing like a 4.40pm Sunday match live from UTAS to wet the appetite of our commercial sponsors
