MRP / Trib. Jeremy Cameron makes contact with umpire while celebrating a goal

This was not some light contact the player caused carelessly though Groc. He straight out flattened the ump and there was extremely high potential to cause injury.

But it wasn't intentional. It was careless.

Precedent was set when Todd Curley ran into an umpire in 2001. Said he didn't see the umpire but it made no difference. Got four weeks for that, reduced to two. So I'll say he will get two weeks, lucky the umpire wasn't Eleni, could have sent her flying and it would've been very nasty.

No doubt unintentional. But this is reckless unintentional contact, Cameron is accelerating through an area known to be inhabited by umpires and not watching where he is going. Even worse, he is being a complete flog celebrating the goal his team-mate gave him on a platter with the crowd without even so much as a thanks to his magnanimous confederate.

Careless (I call running without looking where you're going careless rather than accidental), and he did needlessly contact an umpire, so give him a fine. Probably lucky he didn't hurt him or that could escalate very rapidly.

Having said that, Lynch is going straight to the tribunal for running into a guy who deliberately got into his path as he attacked the ball, so who knows these days.

Dangers grand final effort puts him well ahead of Martin at present. Was close to BOG.

Martin is not even a top 100 player in the game anymore at 31 years of age.

The Grand final was 6 months ago. Danger is NOT that player anymore. If we are using games from the past to justify players now, Martin's 3 Norm Smith's put him above Danger as a player.

Games from the past don't matter. Facts are, Danger is a B grade player in 2023.

Martin literally became a B Grader last season. He could hardly make it to 30 in good form let alone GOAT 😆

And Danger has become a B grader this season. Go check your board. I'm not the only one questioning Danger this season.

I think danger and Martin are neck and neck across their careers. I’m not the dilusional one trying to claim either is GOAT

Claiming Danger is neck and neck with a triple Ayres triple Smith record Brownlow and Coaches vote season player is delusional GC. But that is just a diversionary tactic from you to try to get the heat off Cameron that we had to put on him here because boys club mainstream footy media would not even consider it.

Can someone explain to me, apart from the teams involved, why this incident has 50 replies and a three page thread and a deliberate knee to a defenceless player in a ruck contest, which the AFL has already said they want out of the game, has no thread?
1) GWS have no supporters.

2) if they did they wouldn't be worried about playing the hawks next week, and whether or not ned reeves (?) plays.

As for jezza checks fixture...17 games? Afl really needs to set a standard here...

I'm sure it would have been a suspension in the past, but I'm not sure exactly what the rules are governing contact are. As far as I can tell, there no clear rules about what constitutes prohibitive umpire contact, but Michael Christian said in 2018 that this was the interpretation they would run with going forward:

I don't think any of those would apply to Cameron, and I can't find any provisions for "careless" umpire contact, which suggests that he's probably going to be fine unless they decide to invent a new precedent on the spot.

EDIT:

No wait, I found it on p. 7 of the tribunal guidelines. "Careless Contact with an Umpire" is a $1500 fine for a first offence.

That is the 2021 rules, which may well have changed.
The other umpire contact ones, which go straight to tribunal, don't seem to apply so it looks like a fine. If careless and reckless were still delineated, it could well have found itself in the reckless category. But $2500, down to $1500 with a guilty plea, seems most likely from that if it is up to date.

Could have been anything from 3-6 weeks maybe a decade back.

Easily neck and neck. dusty lacked the skill across his career to have proper consistency at an elite level. He could only do it for a season or two when things were perfectly set for him with the game plan and team. Outside of those few years he was below probably 20-30 other players each season.

Danger way more consistent at an elite level which is the halmark of a more talented player.

Better players are more consistent players

I would be so disappointed if he got suspended. A fine because you can't argue with the rules regardless of intent but a suspension no way.

The umpire should never have been there to begin with. Not camerons fault.

Tell you what then. You keep Danger and we'll keep Dusty. Sorted. :)
