Yeah agree, i originally thought it was reported he wanted to stay but it was because of money that he decided to look elsewhere, although in saying that I dont know how he could after the deception of lowballing him in the first place, also he would be there for the rest of his career. If its really about lifestyle and not money then he will stick to his word and tell them to gagf!!!

I think it *might* have been about money, but the way they've treated him when he has 'decided to go' in their mind would shit me endlessly. They've really shown what they think of him. That's not even taking into account the low-balling.

GWS are on the decline, too. So lifestyle, flag chances and a club that's not going to actively screw you over are the other factors outside of cash.
And who could forget mum and dad's caravan purchase?

2 first round picks should get it done. Any more and I'll be pissed
Danger was a mid 1st, a 2nd + Dean Gore, that should be the precedent. Only difference is Cameron is older. I wonder how 15+37+Fort sounds to them. 🤣

Just for the giggles I'd love to see Cameron come out with a simple, one line statement saying 'I'm going to sue for restraint of trade'.......and then watch GWS and the AFL fall over themselves 😀
I'd love to see JC wearing the hoops next year, but part of me would love for his manager to come out and say:

"We acknowledge the Giants are within their rights to match the contract offer as submitted by Geelong. And as the offer has been matched, Jeremy has decided that the best and least disruptive option for his family is for him to re-sign with GWS and play out his career as a one team player.

Jeremy has enjoyed his past 10 years with the club after they drafted him as a 17 year old, and he looks forward to finishing his career where it started.

Thank you"

Pretty sure that's exactly what GWS wouldn't want to hear based on the contract on offer from Geelong

If that were to happen it would make Cameron look like an arseh*le who only ever threatened to leave because of money (which may well be the case), the fact that his manager has already said he wont play for GWS next year and only wants Geelong really puts GWS in a tough spot because no matter how good the offer is the likelyhood of JC signing is almost 0. I almost believe he would be the 1 bloke who would happily take a year off and spend it fishing after the interrupted year they have had. Then he can walk to us for free in 2022 and give GWS the middle finger on the way out.

Out of curiosity does anyone know if JC has to accept the matched contract from GWS or can he request a revised 1 year at $900k deal to stay and then leave, would seem that the fact that GWS matched then that is the contract on offer and anything else outside that would be a breach of the FA rules, if so we could have just offered him 2 years at $3 million and blew them out of the water.

His manager has already come out and said he won't be going back to the Giants.
So they already know there is no risk of him acknowledging their offer.

Insanity they threw away pick 10 or 11 when its better than our first. We could've then traded them a first rounder for some later picks.
When the optics of matching mean more than the outcome.

Now it'll play out like some bad tv drama.

I think the match will have ramifications for the system. No doubt. The AFLPA won't be happy. The compensation has been an issue this year and I suspect we could be very soon in a situation where RFA goes. They already don't like it, they just needed a trigger.

Then a rep for the players..NOT DANGER should have ame out before now and let it be known... we know have one lub who has done it , another thinking on it

He can request a 1 year deal but gws have to agree to it.
Whereas if he accepts the 5 years they just matched they have to keep him.

I know what he's manager said - just think it'll be funny if something like that was said

They just want blood. We can't satisfy them.

Its a bit of a line in the sand for them, optically. Odd to play hardball with a guy who has given a decade of excellent service, but there you go. They should have just taken compo and then worked out a side deal to get one of our firsts (and maybe a Narkle/Constable) also.

GWS are doing themselves not favours by playing the spite game in terms of player retention or attracting future players

they are behaving like a schoolboy that just been dumped for the first time
Funny part is North Melbourne and Carlton already took players off them under free* agency with minimal fuss. They'll probably let Caldwell and Hately walk for a pittance too.

*free for every team bar Geelong 🤣

GWS have a whole lot more to lose than us on this, we can quite easily walk away and keep all our first picks and Smith and Higgins and GWS can deal with a 5 year 900k contract for a bloke that doesnt want to be there among trying to fill gaps left by the blokes that have gone. Wells should be letting them know that too, we hold the cards and if we dont agree with the terms of trade then we still walk away happy, well unhappy but with a draft hand that will add some happiness, like i said Cameron isn't a direct need for us so we wont sell the farm to get him.

+ the possibility he chances himself through the draft. Whether he gets to us or not, still a big GWS loss.

This looks right. Not accepting compo makes no sense apart from trying to look tough. Given that it probably means the draft is going to be the best option for us because GWS will be demanding much more than we need to offer to pick him up. Just go to the draft and we're highly likely to get him for pick 13.

Gonna have to just pay them I think. Cameron is worth it. Then I hope we smash the #$%^ out of them next year. Greedy pricks.

Come on. Such short memories. We screwed the very best out of WC over TK and GWS are trying to do the same with JC. If these guys are greedy pricks then so was Geelong. It's GWS's responsibility to get the best they can from any deal.

Everyone wants to sell at the highest price and buy at the lowest price. It's the same in real estate as it is in the stock market and at livestock sale yards. That's all this trade period amounts too, a sale of human services.
