The AFL is right to say there is no comparison between the Finlayson and Clarkson incidents- Clarkson’s is much worse.

What they said is equivalent but player and official interactions of this or any type are strictly taboo. Compare if a player grabs another player by the scruff of the neck to if a player grabs a coach or a coach grabs a player by the scruff of the neck. The player/player interaction occurs every day without penalty; the player/coach interaction should lead to a season ban.

The AFL has dug itself a big hypocracy hole.

As Caro has stated, it's a word that's been used on the field before and likely even this year. The only difference is that it was caught on mic by the umpire.

Which is why my point that a 6 week fine would be absolutely absurd.

I think the outcome should be that the AFL give him a fine similar to Clarko, but also make a statement that this will no longer be tolerated and will be met with a heavy suspension moving forward.

This gives consistency as well as shows that the AFL is taking things seriously. It is the only fair outcome GIVEN what Clarko got.

For me the interesting thing about this is Lloyd saying a week is the questionmark and he shouldn't get that given Clarko didn't get a week.

I think nobody is really gonna get too upset about a week and its something we all just wear and move on.

We have to remember that as loud as certain cow customers are on Port issues, they are completely irrelevant in the AFL and their opinions don't actually matter at all. Just fools yelling in to the abyss with that neverending chip on their shoulder about the club they support never making it to the AFL. Nobody with any sense is seriously considering a 6 week suspension or comparing it to Walker.

On principal, Lloyd is spot on. But you're also right - it's one that's likely to annoy Port but not cause an appeal.

Double standards?

Is this the same Emily Olle who attacked people for their race, gender, and sexual orientation just over a month ago?

Crows supporters should remember what Nietzsche said about the abyss, when you look long into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

Weighing in online, some footy pundits and fans criticised Clarkson’s “heat of the moment” justification and match ban suspension, given his history of earlier outbursts.

The AFL said it took into account Clarkson’s apology, remorse and “desire to seek help to develop strategies to manage his behaviour”.

“Alastair’s conduct does not represent behaviour acceptable to anyone in our game,” AFL general counsel Stephen Meade said.

“[It is] not what is expected of a senior coach, especially someone of Alastair’s experience.

“While we understand there are emotions attached to the heat of the contest, engaging with an opposition player during the quarter-time break and then using language that is both unacceptable and highly inappropriate is something the AFL does not want in the game.”

I do not agree this has to be treated as vilification. It needs to be investigated to find out why Finlayson said it. Was it a slip of the tongue? Was he angry and in the heat of the moment said something he regrets. Because if it was not specifically targeted at the player theres a lot less malice involved clearly.

I do think the word is disgusting and it needs to be stamped out but unfortunately the AFL back themselves into corners on these issues. Clearly they are scrambling given the Clarko precedent and the calls for him to get games are weighing on the decision.

The longer this goes the more it seems like he will be made an example of. I don't mind that but when a coach made a similar comment they got nothing and no one batted an eye.

How is it 4 days after this incident and they still haven't come up with a punishment yet, even though Jeremy admitted to it the very night it happened.
He should be banned for years, the club should lose 4 points, the coach should be sacked, and koch banned from saying anything for the next 4 years, that should do it according to the loud mouths in the media, especially as it is port.
