He should be banned for years, the club should lose 4 points, the coach should be sacked, and koch banned from saying anything for the next 4 years, that should do it according to the loud mouths in the media, especially as it is port.
On balance I'd take this

The AFL is in a quandary because they have nothing to compare it to. Andrew Dillon said you can't compare it to what Text said, Laura Kane said you can't benchmark it against Clarkson's punishment as a precedent.

Looks like it will have to be old faithful.

I do not agree this has to be treated as vilification. It needs to be investigated to find out why Finlayson said it. Was it a slip of the tongue? Was he angry and in the heat of the moment said something he regrets. Because if it was not specifically targeted at the player theres a lot less malice involved clearly.

I do think the word is disgusting and it needs to be stamped out but unfortunately the AFL back themselves into corners on these issues. Clearly they are scrambling given the Clarko precedent and the calls for him to get games are weighing on the decision.

The longer this goes the more it seems like he will be made an example of. I don't mind that but when a coach made a similar comment they got nothing and no one batted an eye.
Correct.
The pile on for Jez is astounding. Where were these paragons of virtue when Clarko did worse on several different levels and just got fined.

If you're going to change the rules mid stream, then you have to tell the world in advance, so then if a penalty is summarily increased, people know the implications in advance.

You can't just meander along playing the same tune, then when something similar happens to some schmuck not in the Vic boy's club, suddenly say "oh well we'll just change things now - because we can!". No warning given that you're playing to different rules.

Or this one...

How is it 4 days after this incident and they still haven't come up with a punishment yet, even though Jeremy admitted to it the very night it happened.
As of last night, Caro was saying they hadn't even spoken to him yet.

I reckon the AFL don't give a s**t but have to do something to look good, probably 25k fine?
This is why it will be games. I predict 4 games and 20k.

As Caro has stated, it's a word that's been used on the field before and likely even this year. The only difference is that it was caught on mic by the umpire.

Which is why my point that a 6 week fine would be absolutely absurd.

I think the outcome should be that the AFL give him a fine similar to Clarko, but also make a statement that this will no longer be tolerated and will be met with a heavy suspension moving forward.

This gives consistency as well as shows that the AFL is taking things seriously. It is the only fair outcome GIVEN what Clarko got.

This will probably not happen, it's far too fair and sensible.

SEN is reporting that Finlayson got a spray from an Essendon player and his outburst was in retaliation.

Still not appropriate, but if provoked, it goes to mitigation. I find it amazing that there has been nothing said in the media regarding the lead up to the incident. Only the public execution that has happened so far.

If it was provoked, Essendon can’t sit there all high and mighty.

Don't let logic get in the way of a good story.

How surprising that the media have all already hung him out to dry and then all of a sudden "maybe he was provoked".
