Game Day JLT Series Round 3: Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn

Stewart should slot straight onto that wing/hff position left vacant by Hill.

Henderson to slot into the Hb/wing position that we have been trying to fill since Suckling left.

Miles has done well this jlt and has put himself well and truly in the BP conversation. Can we run with 2 of Wx/Duryea/Miles?

Langford/Mitchell/O'Meara/Shiles looks like a strong first 4 inside mid options.

O'Rourke will have a bit of work to do to displace one of our inside mids.

Howe is now chasing Henderson for a HB/Wing position. Hopefully this adds consistency to his game, because we will need ot post Birchall/Burgoyne.

Burton & Sicily both look like very promising prospects. But the squeeze on the fwd line might make it tough for either to break back in (unless someone is moved) and both have shown signs in the defensive end but are yet to cement a spot. With Gibson/Roughead not getting younger soon rather then latter we need this blokes to stand up big time. But they will, i have so much faith in these 2.

Don't think Miles is even close to being ready.

Glebehawk you are probably right but ive seen as much out of him over this series as i have Duryea. Wx is solid for that position for me. The question is 'do we play a 2nd from that category'.

From what I see out there and of course it's only preseason, but we're in for a topsy turvy year. Honestly think we'll be lucky to play finals. Our crew coming through is currently pedestrian at best. Jaeger and Mitch are a great start and should hold in good stead in a few years. They're something we can build around, but we almost need a few bad years to get some decent youth into the club.

So sick of the lame excuses on here and that losing this game doesn't matter.
I want my team hitting the season proper on a winning note. Not losing to a bottom 8 team.
Both teams under strength but what does that say about our depth ?
No positives out of this game for me at all.
Very dissapointed !
Got my doubts that we will beat the cheats in round 1 who are a better team than Port.
Richmond also easily beat them.
We are fast dropping back in the pack and will be fighting tooth and nail to just make the 8 this year. That is fact. That is reality. Signs are there. Again, save this post and prove me wrong in September. You will see i am correct.

Did you have a similar tantrum when we lost all our preseason games in 2013?

You know our squad currently has 17 premiership players in it - right?

What that says is that it's been difficult to break in to a champion side and get some game time at an elite level so that you can develop your game. Taking the step from VFL to AFL is not the easy transition that some seem to believe it is.

The lack of patience from some posters with our new crop of players is mind blowing.
Whether you and others like it or not this year is the beginning of a rebuild and unfortunately for you it appears that it's going to be a very long year

Unfortunately,OTC, there are many spoiled Hawthorn supporters who don't understand reality, and just expect us to win all the time. Also, how many posters have taken the conditions into consideration, not many I would say.

I was very pleased with Stewat's game, and feel sure he will play round 1. Henderson was also very impressive until he ran out of gas, and could be a chance too. the disappointing thing for me was that Nash and Morrison didn't get more game time; loved Conor's rugby style, hip tackle.

It is very difficult to say where we will finish this year, but rest assured, Clarko has plans for the future, and we all know he doesn't like losing, so I'm looking forward to the challenging ride.

Well, I was a bit disappointed that we played at 80% for most of the game bar a short burst in the second quarter. But then winning this game isn't the objective (I assume because the boys didn't play like it was).

I was quite pleased that I found myself largely unable to notice the difference between the young/new and the old/seasoned as the ball flowed from one Hawk to the next. The new brigade were just as involved in the transition and defense as the old guys. In the first JLT it was more obvious to me when new guys were touching the ball. Today they were on the ball all across the field and in everage passage of play and I found myself recognising new guys after the ball had left them. I found that encouraging.

The coaches, obviously, will know for sure but I take that increased 'commonness' of the new guys in the play as a great indication that they are getting settled on the game plan - who does what where on the field. I think that guys were playing out of position all across the ground yet they still managed to string play together.

So, all in all, I'm quite satisfied with this preseason. I think that we'll have some discouraging breakdowns in play during the year (like when Ceglar hand balled to a Langford who wasn't looking and Geelong converted the turnover the length of the wild for six) but we will massively improve as the year progresses.

Good times ahead. I'll be cheering wildly.

Every year, sometime after a loss, you come here crying. We're doomed, we're doomed.

Hooray for you, last year, you were actually right. Well done. We didn't win, along with 16 other teams.

It's no great stroke of genius to claim we won't win the flag.

You think you're enlightening any of us? You think any of us think you just stroll up and win every flag? Every flag is a blessing, not an expectation.

If you need to debrief with your pessimism, save it for a journal. Write some emo poem about how "We're doomed!" in it every night, stick it under the bed, and then when we don't salute, you can pull it out and high five yourself.

For the rest, your unrelenting misery is just self-indulgent pish. No one is interested in your self pity.

If you can't do anything but sook about a team that's given us all such joy, just don't post...

The thing I've noticed is that O'Meara and Tom Mitchell will take a little time to gel, both with each other and with the other midfielders. They are both in there, and doing well, but that's not enough.

Until this year, we had a settled midfield who had played together for many years and knew each other's strength and weaknesses. JOM and TOM are not only new, they will have to adapt to our style, and unlearn all the bad habits they have learned in the crap teams they've played for.

It will take a few weeks of solid competitive games to get up to speed.
We need to be patient.

Jpzhawk forget what anyone is saying to you. You're allowed to come here and express disappointment after a loss. It shows how passionate you are.

To all that are 'trying to tell him off for it' what the hell? Seriously let 'him do him' and 'you do you'. The attempted authority figures.... . Actually forget what i said continue bringing me a laugh.

No disrespect to them, but how many of them have the best years in front of them?

Dare say Cyril, Gunston, Breust, Smith, Shiels, Doc or Chips are contemplating throwing it all in any time soon.

No-one's saying he can't say it - we're just rightfully pointing out why we think he's wrong. That's how free speech works - you can say all kinds of whacky shit, but it doesn't mean you're immune from rebuttals.

To many on here living in the past.
We are not the team we were 2 years ago.
Top 8 is doubtful.

Ha ha, love it, you've reeled in a few with that bait.

Fishing shouldn't be so easy!

;)

I'm really hoping that last quarter has convinced Clarko to play Sicily forward and Burton back all year.

Burton looked very good in the last half after a poor 1st half and Sicily up forward gives us another option to go to from
kick outs as well.

I couldn't understand Sicily taking the kick outs the past few games. He is our best contested marker if your going to play him back at least try and utilise his best assest by using him as an.option from the kick outs.

Hello? Eddy kicked 4 on him in the 3rd qtr
