Bugger. Was hoping he was Tom Lamb v2
Yeah so was I but he does show a bit(note a bit, not a lot, yet)
Ainsworth could be a contender... From the match report:

"Brayden Ainsworth is a round one chance after an excellent and competitive summer but he had a shocker on Sunday, only chalking up one disposal – a kick out-on-the-full under no pressure – in the opening half."

I've had a few so here goes

This is a different Tabs, don't know if the penny has dropped, if he's had an epiphany or just natural development

But his effort today had shades of Riewoldt on it, last JLT game wasn't too shabby either

I know, I know it's pre season

Tabs has been naturally developing, but it has been very slowly and is hard for us to understand just how much.
We have a great deal of history of disappointments with Tabs and that is hard to scrap from our minds.
But if you simply look at his stats for each season, you are allowed to be a little excited.
Check out his average goals and contested marks for his career so far;
2013: Goals 0.5 per games, Contested Marks 0.25 per game
2014: Gls 0.78, CMs 1.00
2015: Gls 0.93, CMs 1.07
2016: Gls 1.06, CMs 1.82
2017: Gls 1.38, CMs *2.75
(*NB: his average CMs last year was better than the AFL's best ie. Jeremy McGovern 2.54)

Meanwhile somebody like Jesse Hogan has shown very little improvement. His first season is arguably his best;
2015: Gls 2.20, CMs 2.35
2016: Gls 1.95, CMs 2.05
2017: Gls 2.00, CMs 1.00

My point is, it's easy for us to think of Tabs as a clumsy inconsistent forward given his lengthy time at the Dockers, meanwhile, many of us think of Jesse Hogan as a classy premier forward because of his early reputation.
Personally, I think Tabs is very underrated and he is still trending on the up. You just need to take the good with the bad with him ... and there will be bad days.

A lot to like.
Tucker is so composed and classy and he started to really get involved.
Brayshaw is looking like a rolled gold 200 gamer already and we have Cerra in the shed.
Ryan is incredible. If he played for a Vic side he'd be being hailed as a superstar already.
Wilson started to play with his customary dash.
Bring the Hills in and later on Cerra & hopefully Bennell and we are looking seriously on the up.

Yes. And there are more positives. A lot of cohesion in that game. A real sense of attack and intention, and a return to some genuine pressure. Great way to end the pre-season.

Nice to see some of our veterans performing too

Love Brayshaw - reminds me a lot of Clayton Oliver great hands and is a natural footballer. I’m hearing Cerra is equally as good. Bit hard to judge the performance accurately as eagles were terrible. They’re in for a long season.

How good is it having the ball hitting the ground in d50, everyone spreading and having options a) Moose to dash b)Wilson to hit someone 65metres away after running 15m c) Ryan to hit someone 68m away after running 10m d) Johnson to show composure and slow things down as a last resort. Awesome half back line

Yep he’s a beauty - he’s got all the attributes to be the best chb in the competition in the near future.

He treated the West Coast forwards like witches hat. He looked superb. The bump and win of the low contested ball while he was out numbered was amazing.

At this very early stage, I'm happy we took Brayshaw. Obviously too early to know for sure, but I like what I've seen compared with Dow, LDU, Stephenson, etc.

Loving the look of our backline for the future. If Hughes and Logue can kick on, it should be a stellar defence, with athletic/attacking qualities that would be the best in the comp.

I’m smelling improvement - I hope for a quantum leap but at a minimum there’s clearly some good signs.

- The Sports Science guys have more of the squad up and running.
- The kicking skills and ball movement appear to be on the up. Will be tested when the pressure comes on in Round 1 over there.
- That trademark pressure looks like it’s on its way back. We seem to have done the full circle with the game plan.
- If the foundation for success is defence, it’s shaping up to be a strong structure down back with Hamling, Johnson, Wilson, Ryan, A.Pearce and Spurr. They all read it well and there’s a mix of experience, class, plenty of height, some great marking and kicking skills amongst them and some speed too.
- Meanwhile, our alignment Club is in good shape and providing good grounds for development hopefully to the same extent that Box Hill did when it played its part in supporting the Hawks’ sustained run.

I am not getting carried away, but I do have a good sense of smell and West Coast were rotten today.

My buddy had an ok game given his limited pre-seaon -

36 disposals (13 contested)
8 clearances
6 tackles
3 goals 2 behinds

Looking forward to seeing him when his fitness is back up to standard

Hoping this is the year he finally gets rewarded with an AA gig.
