News Jnr Rioli - He’s back.

At a guess: 33 months offered based on penalties handed out for other urine substitution examples, we say 2 years, settle on 27-30 months enabling him to be back for 2022 with hopefully a full preseason at the club.

As a hope- ASADA have really stuffed up in their process somewhere which is why they're taking so long to try and cover their bases and he's back sometime next year.

Recent offences and time taken for hearings..

Thomas/Keefe (Collingwood) - 9 months

Crowley (Fremantle) - 11 months

Murray (Collingwood) - 13 months

Rioli (West Coast) - 13 months, no hearing set....

This is an absolute disgrace.

The AFL does not want this heard in season. Niether does the Eagles.

They want it sorted a month post season coming into December when everyone is over the season, post draft.

People this is all about dealing with a sh!t situation as quietly as possible.

Article in the west regarding gills issues with the rioli case and the delays, can anyone access? locked behind paywall

Jaidyn Stephenson had more than half of his penalty as suspended sentence (10 weeks + 12 weeks suspended sentence).
Why can‘t Rioli has something similar?
2 years with 6 months suspended - effectively 18 months.

Is there any power to suspend part of a sentence for a WADA code breach? I can’t recall it happening before.

Possibly because a second conviction would be pretty much career-ending, so there’s not much point tacking on a few extra months.

There doesn't seem to be that option - probably because as you say the second offence would be career-ending. That is how WADA/ASADA do it..

The perplexing part is the Stephenson one, where the AFL gave him 12-weeks suspended as part of his sentence - surely a second offence would or should also be career ending for him (assuming it was a gambling issue - I guess in theory if he had a Crouch-style incident his 12-week suspended sentence could be added - but surely if he got caught betting on himself again it would be curtains and the 12-weeks would be moot?)

ASADA offices,
Hey Bob how are you going with that Rioli case?
What do you mean, I though Trev was sorting that one out.
Mate, Trev hasn't worked here since the Covid thing happened and he was part of the cull.
Cull? I thought we put more on?
Yeah but that was management, they don't do the actual work.
Mmmm, I don't know then. Maybe Deb might know, she generally knows most things going on.
etc etc etc

This is an interesting read. Apologies if already posted

Mitigating circumstances should be a factor. Giving a false sample because you're worried about the weed you smoked does not carry the same weight as providing a false sample because you're worried about the PEDs you took to gain an unfair advantage
