I've worked with a handful of ex players that were consultants at accenture, deloitte, pwc and kpmg

Not really that left field - pretty sure Paul Couch was actively working as a garbo in 89. Didn't even have to wait until retirement!

There was the goal umpire who did his knee during a game. He was doing his training to be an orthopaedic surgeon.

My physio played a few AFL games.

In the old days they would open a pub or a sports store.
