We would be stupid not to pursue every other option. Plus we are probably sizing up the PUNT of trying to go into the bidding system.

It would be stupid if one of the best young talents says i want to join you and you say wait a minute we want to consider our options.

For this reason I would expect he is the one keeping his options open over concerns about the coaching issues your team has had this year though i can see those issues look to be over or at least improving. He may also wait to see if his brother is offered another contract before committing because this could help his brother negotiate another contract.

If we have to give the otehr Danhier a position to get Joe, we will. As poor as the current one is, he is nowhere near as bad as Welsh, etc.

As a club we should be doing what is right by the club. The club is bigger than one player, especially an unproven KPP. That means pursuing every avenue to get Daniher as cheaply as humanly possible. I am realistic when I say we will come in the bottom 6 in 2012 and thus, we will be in a position whereby we should be able to get him for a 2nd rounder. That is a bargain.

And with JD to arrive, it begs the question why we did not selection an out n out midfielder with Pick #31.

Because we have to develop our tall forwards from this point onward. Why sit on our hands for another 2 years, then have to wait 1-2 years while Joe develops into a regular senior player. If Steinberg is bank, not bust, he will be 2 years ahead of Joe, and playing regularly.

Plus, until there is a signature, there is no guarantee. We delisted Still and Neagle may be gone, so getting another tall forward into development is a smart move imo.

And for the 100th time, Steinberg may not be Key Position, if he turns out good and so do our FF and CHF then thats a fairly exciting forward line right there.

Also godzke, because jd is a ruckman/fotward monster, ariel is a tall third tall.

exactamondo. I'm hoping the Stevie J comparisons are most apt. If he can be anything approaching the game of Stevie J there'll be ***** eating their words left right and centre.

I know I'd sure prefer a Stevie J type to another vanilla midfielder.

Having said all that, I'm not naively believing he will be that good, but if can play that role and wave the odd magic wand occasionally...

It's also distinctly possible Joe will turn out to be a ruck rather than a kpp. He's 198cm now and he's only 16, so it seems perfectly possible he'll grow a bit more and end up true ruckman height. His brother Ned is 203cm...

"J. Daniher palms it down beautifully, my he really is a player isn't he..palms it straight down to the speedster Tommy Hird, who appears to have every ounce of talent that his father possessed..7th spin out of trouble, and a lovely spearing pass to big Jay Neagle - my, he may be getting on in age now, but it certainly hasn't stopped him from having an 8th season in a row of 100plus goals."

The fathers sit on watching proudly...we can hope :)

We should really be signing this kid up ASAP in the same way Viney and Buckley have already been signed by Melbourne and Carlton respectively.

This kid is going to be a gun. Our first rounder in 2012 will probably be around pick 12, so it will be an absolute bargain

No point considering we MIGHT be able to get him as a 2nd rounder. Why waste a first rounder when we may not have to!

I can see the worth of signing him early. If we have done so, any other club who might be interested may be inclined to not bother as we have him sewn up already which may see us only have to use a late pick. If they decide they would like to make a play, then they are just doing it to effect the draft order, which is extremely likely as well.
