Know that is selling him short, just didn't want to come across as a one eyed port supporter, the calls pick 1 and 2 is a bit rich, probably closer to pick 5 and pick 15

Doesn't matter he'll sign not many 2 ms year players cry homesick, us Port supporters have been subjected to this stupid arrogant Victorian trash talk just ignore it!!!!

Read my one and only blog that i posted about the great man earlier today

He is the best under 21 forward prospect in the competition. A supporter's, coaches' and marketer's dream.

No, we throw the freaking kitchen sink to keep him here. Trading him is not an option.

There are no picks held by a Victorian club that would justify letting a player of his potential go. He won't be in Victoria next year. If he walks, he either gets drafted by GWS or us.

It won't come to that. I'm sure he's happy with the club and his team mates and will sign on.

I pray that you're correct, nearly every day actually

Hearing that Sam Blease got this week's rising star nomination.

Butcher robbed

mmm Blease did play well IMO but dunno if it deserved rising star

Butcher wins it next week and the resigning is announced the day he is announced the round 24 nominee

And besides he can win it next year 2012 Butcher Rising star winner and 50+goals?? i can dream

We need to do everything we can to re-sign "The Butcher" as BT calls him. I missed the two previous rounds as I was away, but the difference I can see in the team this week after he kicked 6 is unbelieveable. The guys around him seem to walk taller and have more confidence. There seems to be new belief, and a sense of good things to come around the players.

I reckon even when we were getting hammered in that final term by Essendon he could of won it for us if our midfield could of got it in a little better. There are two times I can think of when he was in front and in the right spot but the ball went over his head or was too far away.

I just can't get over the change in the playing groups attitude, and the only thing I can put it down to is him. It seems to have taken the pressure off Schulz and Gray too.

Schulz and Butch can work together very well IMO. We need them to have a great understanding though, where and when they lead and everything like that. A good forward line coach next year will help. Our forward line crumbers are going to be getting a lot of opportunities with the way Butch throws himself into packs.

Yep but can't do it with Ebert in there. In the second half it was very clear Ebert got in the way.

What pissed me off yesterday was that when they got a run on in the last quarter, we didn't position Butcher about 5m back from our forward 50m arc. He was marking just about everything. If we got the ball out of defence or out of the centre we had a dependable target to go to. And if he took a mark around 50m out he probably would have kicked it.

By my reckoning he hasn't missed a shot on goal since his first one early in the first quarter against the Hawks. Yep he has kicked 11-1!!

The webpage above is worth a look.

Seems like Mr Wayne Butcher will make our lives awkward for however long John plays with us. This article has him quoted as saying that all parents would prefer if their sons played for a team closer to home to watch them every week.

Can't dispute that, but desperately hope that John is going to be his own man about this and stick with us.

Why couldn't he be a South Australian country kid?

How about we fly mum and dad out 10 times a year to watch their son play?. Surely we can find 10k somewhere to do that.

Hell, with the serious coin Butch will be on, HE could pay for it.

you guys seen how far maffra is from melbourne its 200+ ks from melbourne so about 2.5 hour drive I'm sure his parents wouldn't go to every game even if he was playing in melbourne its just a media beat up

How do you know that??

A couple of years ago when Rodan had played about 70 games for Port there was an interview with his folks and they had only missed one game in Adelaide, driving over from Melbourne for nearly all of those games. Plus they travelled around Oz to watch most of his games. I met them late in 2007 at Alberton - after the Carlton game, and they told me they had been to every game he played that year!

Footy Classified alluding to Butcher returning to Melbourne again. These clowns can't help themselves.

3 weeks ago they didn't know who he was or cared

The usual Hutchie beat up. But I did like how Caro asked if they were going to show highlights of him every week, and Lyon reckons if he keeps playing like that then yes!

Just need to draft his brother, keep the family together.

Then the whole lot of them can move over.

I think the club should impose some kind of ban on drafting brothers/cousins/any family members of current listed players for at least 10 years ;)

Absolutely not, if he's not up to it.

What happens when we cut him?
