Oppo Camp John Noble (Traded to GCS 2024)

I'm undecided on John.

Does some good things, does some really poor things.

Jury is out at the moment.
That's fair enough, especially given tonight was his 10th AFL game. It's easy to forget how long he has been in the system for. Will keep growing. He isn't always gonna get everything 100%, but the rest will come with experience.

He was good. He is good attacking small defender with neat skills either side. People made a big deal about Quaynor last week but Noble possesses more of the traits than Quaynor was described as having.

He probably plays as well as to be expected as a bloke who spent a significant amount of time in a state league rather than drafted to the AFL system as a kid. Don't forget he's only been on an AFL list for a year thanks to the mid-season draft. Not everyone can come in as a mature aged player and have the impact of a Tim Kelly or Mihocek.

He doesn't have time compared to the kids coming through. He went through the mid season because Hine (or someone) thought he would have an immediate impact and not spend 2 years in the system learning.

I thought he was supposed to be a line breaking defender but he isn't that. He is too small and just doesn't use it well enough for the role he has to play. I can't see him playing a lot of footy with Maynard, Crisp, Qaynor (and maybe Murphy) offering more.

what's the point of bringing a mature age player if they cant have an impact? isn't that the point of bringing them in?

I think Quaynor is the long term option for his role but he could find a spot if he maintains and improves his form. Quaynor being 3 years his junior certainly has more scope for improvement plus he looks to have the naturally bigger body being 11kg’s heavier at the same height.

with the season as it is this year, I imagine there will be a few players who will play when specifically needed and then might be out a week later. I think Noble will be one of those players as will as few others, but, he played his role well last night
I hope he stays in. Part of a group of defenders who break the lines and give us quick transition. Two talls and 5 blokes who can break the lines. One of our talls can break the lines too. That's the defence we had last night. I hope we stick with it. That's how we can get it in quickly and make our medium forwards a really dangerous group again.

Noble is just a small guy after being a premature baby. I don't think he'll ever bulk up. He's got good speed and skills but he doesn't always stick the tackles(much like Blaire)" Horses for courses" play him against opposition fast (physically) small forwards.
He needs to work on his 1 on 1 defence, he gives away 1 or 2 horrible frees a game.
I reckon long term he's better suited for the wing .

I like him. He makes a couple of terrible errors but we bemoan players who don’t take the game on so if you want to live by the sword, occasionally you die by it.
3 years ago Maynard was that guy. He has now developed a good balance and his risk taking kicks are one of the main sources of good forward entries.

Well aware of all of that.

Hence I'm still not sure.

I think his biggest weaknesses are his lack of composure and lack of body strength, both should improve with another preseason or two and 20 more games under his belt.

He was quite good against Geelong, he's a keeper.

Impressed with him tonight

Im guilty of not realising the small amount of time he has had in the AFL System. Still reasonably young and fits a spot on our list that we need.

Quaynor is also quicker and kicks it longer and better.
