Who do you think is more skilled with their disposal by hand and foot? I may be biased but I think TJ. Dal Santo is very effective but tends to kick short alot while Johnstone slices the opposition more with his long kicks. Over a long kick i think TJ has the money. Also TJ is alot more damaging on goals and rarely misses on the run while Dal Santo used to struggle a bit. He's improved alot now though. Both deadly when they have the ball, both game breakers, who do you think? Dal is awesome with his no look handballs etc.

travis johnstone... wanna know why? dal's skills are good yes, but no better than your average player.. his major skill is his ability to make time for himself, his awareness and sidestepping ability make his disposal a lot less rushed.. johnstone has little or no awareness and is as dumb as dog poo which makes his kicking ability absolutly unbelievable

I agree Johnstone isn't exactly a scholar, but his ability to shrug a tackle,or side step a defender and know where the footy will be is excellent.

He is an awesome kick who occasionally stuffs up majorly when he tries something that is physically impossible. Dal is probably more consistent but doesn't do as many "eye of a needle" kicks as Trav

In the final last year Johnstone had Dal Santo covered easily in the wet. His shrugging of tackles and pin point passing in the last quater was as match winning as McLeans quater. In finals and big games eg Queens bday(proved by 5 brownlow votes in the last two of them) he steps up majorly and his skill level is evident above the rest. 2000 gf great game, 2002 final against crows 25 touches and 4 goals, 2004 final against bombers 24 touches and 2 boundary line goals, 2005 final rolled ankle, 2006 final sensational last quater when it counted. When dal was rushed in the 06 final his skills looked scrappy. He needs to show he can do it in big games where there is lots of pressure to have the skill level of TJ.

What the hell is so good about Johnstone?

Seems like a headland to me..

Far, far and away a much better player than Headland.

Melbourne's most dangerous by a mile and our 2005 BnF winner and 2002 came 4th in the brownlow.

A lot of interstate fans wouldn't know though, it's rare you'd ever see Melbourne play footy I'd imagine.

Maybe once a year? Twice?

Well they probably play the dockers/eagles around 3 times a year.

Not to mention we get a fair few of the other games.

He seems lazy to me, a good player. I just dont consider him the champion he is made out to be on this site.

I think you may have been watching a different game to me then. He was young then and did pretty much sweet FA really. some ok glimpses and got possies in dead time when it didnt matter.

Agree, but I think he played quite well in another of the previous finals.

Stephen Powell was easily our best player that day.

travis johnstone. del santo is overratted.

Dal Santo is not overrated, he is 21 and a star. The questions was specific to skills where Johnstone is about as good as it gets. His kicking in the wet against St Kilda in the final last year was one of the reasons I love AFL footy.

I agree Johnstone isn't exactly a scholar

He is a student of the form.

Dal Santo v Johnstone for skills... I'd take TJ's kicking, but Dal moves better and has better skills in the packs. I like the way he can grab it clean, side-step a tackle and spear a handball to a teammate. He is also a better overhead mark.

The defensive skills of both are non-existent.
