Yes, in the pre-season draft. There was some seriously dodgy shit going on there. He nominated with a suspiciously high price to discourage other suitors. Then, without fanfare, he signed a subsequent renewal at significant unders.

In other words, they effectively front-loaded a longer “unofficial” contract so he could get to Collingwood. There should haven been sanctions for such shenanigans...

Disco

Thanks.Sounds familiar, but I thought he got taken in the National draft.

Can't see DeGoey leaving Collingwood personally. Collingwood stuck by him when other clubs may have buckled, he'll get good coin from them and will remain at one of the big four clubs.A mill a year would put him in top ten paid players in league. He's miles off that.. As a club, we should be focusing on getting an extra Ist round pick during this year's bumper draft.

Have I mentioned that this whole thing annoys me? Like wtf. Are we paying browny, cunners and Zeibs that kind of money?

**** this. If we’re dubbed a non-destination club then all these other players that don’t want to come here but just want to use us to leverage their contracts can **** right off.

Did this bullshit come out on the club website?

Can you confirm that this offer is factually correct?

Obviously not and no I can’t confirm it’s correct.

I just don’t want to have another case of the Kelly-Martin contract saga being played out in public with our potential contract figures being thrown around.

Missing out on Kelly/Martin last year and the associated saga made the club come across as desperate in my eyes.

why do feel we were desperate in going hard at the best Mid and best young mid in the league in one hit? to me, it said "watch out everyone we will come again", just as it looks like we are.

That's an understandable view. I don't mind paying a bit more cash if we have the cap just because it can definitely improve the list quite radically if you get the right piece. I just wouldn't try going after guys that aren't mega stars in teams that are on the up, because that adds price that is too much over - unless they have a beef with the existing club or have some connection to us, its a pretty unlikely thing that you are going to get something even slightly fair.

as to the trade position we have to be very careful not to make a rod for our back, if DeGoey costs us our first this year and an establish best 22, what will GWS expect for Kelly?

the best outcome would be for Collingwood not to take what we offer and DeGoey to head to the Draft with a massive price on his head and end up at North, that would put us in an extremely strong position if Kelly wants to come at the end 2019.

Kelly will be free.

Btw Carlton and saints have plenty of cap space for him too. Collingwood will have to take unders for him because if he wants a trade to North and Collingwood reject what we offer he goes to the draft and Collingwood get nothing at all.

We gave Pick 7, our future first round pick and pick 68 for Treloar and pick 28.

Agree Treloar had a bit more reputation... but he also was being offered 5m over 5 years.

They "kinda" balance each other out.
Your theory is flawed. In terms of trade, a players worth comes down to their football ability not how much they are going to be paid.
In 5 years time if player x is being offered 2 mil a year, he isnt now worth 3 first round selections. If player x is being offered 5 mil a year in 15 years time, going by your theory he is worth 5 first round draft picks.

Like a few others have mentioned I'm not a big fan of this being another media shit storm. How good would it be for our midfield if we were able to get Gaff and De Goey, inject so much needed speed and outside run.

how is Kelly free? he aint a RFA, it will be interesting if either Carlton or the Saints want to hand over the coin.

Oh great. Playing the reverse kanga game.

EFA :zondorlikesthis

I cgaf about managers leaking things like this personally. I like that we're being seen as playas rather than an inert club striving for nothing.

It's not like other clubs are tempting our best players with offers of gold, which would make me nervous.

Let's see how this crap plays out.

God why are guys so worried about what the media say or their mates that barrack for other teams? I couldn't give a shit what other people say or think personally. The only reason I would care would be that other players would think and that it may effect attracting players in the future.

I like said in the past....they can laugh all they want and us having more cash will only mean we may come after their player next. No doubt some of the Pies supporters were laughing after us failing last year....now we're driving his $$ up and perhaps putting a lot of strain on them retaining players and possibly acquiring Lynch. If we don't get De Goey we will be driving someone else's price up next. North having plenty of $$ isn't good for any opposition team trying to retain their players.....and as Twinkletoes said above if it were one of our players we'd be getting nervous.

Someone will take the cash eventually. Its just a matter of who and when. Don't worry if we try and fail apart from the latter reason I mentioned in the first <P>.

I never actually saw that come from the club... jusr reporters from the hun saying "it was their belief".

5 million for a kid at 22... and say Pick 13!

Seriously what would you be willing to give up for a pick 6, from 4 years ago who's worth a million a year for 5 years?

Been thinking a lot about this

I personally think we are 8th or 9th this year so what is that pick 10 or 11.

Obviously one would say that alone isn't enough give the money he has been offered.

I would guess that two first round picks would get it done but that does seem overs for me - after all Dangerfield was two first round picks, and he was the best player in the comp that year. Generally the 'poaching' side gets the better deal.

So my instinct is that a first and second rounder to would work. I do think that favours us given our ladder position this year.

The big X factor is that we have a great academy pick this year... Which brings me to my prediction

Collingwood get two first rounders, with some.second round swaps and tailenders also occuring - all to ensure we have the points for TT (our academy pick).

Edit - after reading more of your posts I want to emphasize something. The swap is never "fair" from a football perspective. We don't stand to lose much, Collingwood do. The club that ''poaches" the player always ends up better off than the one that needs to trade or lose the player.

No idea who is leaking or how this will play out, but I am enjoying:
1. North being aggressive and having been smart enough with the cap to make big offers when we want to.
2. North having such a great run spotting talent that jumps from middling to premium very fast (although if we could do that a bit earlier, it would be even better).
3. The media reaction to this now being all "why wouldn't you go to North Melbourne, the way they are playing?"
4. Further to that, and last but by no means least - Lolololololololol St Kilda.

You've just got to shake your head in disbelief sometimes....the media backflip on us in 12 months is absolutely staggering, and the gen public just eat it up like last year didn't exist.

Eerily similar to earlier last year with Kelly re 'is this guy worth it' and 'only averages bla bla'. Pity it hasn't wholly transferred to our drafting but we've clearly developed a keen eye recently for talent about to explode.

DeGoey has all the hallmarks to be the next Dusty, and whether he leaves or not, whether its true or not, whether its $1M x 5 or not, I'm gonna enjoy the carnage. That Wells and Mayne could be factors is hilarious.

Our first rounder has never been worth less to us and more to another team.

If we have a first rounder come draft day we will have to use it on TT.

If we dont have a first round draft pick we will pick up TT with pur second.

Nah keep doing this we r in the age of trump, it's all about subversion of norm. We should do this to force other clubs to pay overs to keep players.

I get the feeling that in 2 years it will look like a good deal but it will cost us at the trade table. I'd rather we go FA and keep our picks for this draft and Kelly in 2019.

Maybe the club has been told by the free agents management ie. Gaff, McGovern, etc that we’re not their club of choice? Really hoping this is not the case as it makes so much more sense to pick up a Gaff and trade for Kelly next year (that is if he is in fact coming?) rather than selling the farm for De Goey....

The other thought is what if the club doesn’t think Kelly will come home? Could be an explanation of making the million dollar a year offer to De Goey.

Either way I trust the club and am excited at how it might unfold. I just hope we don’t lose to much in the process.

I believe we have enough cap space from for both

I don’t really like the feel of this at all

Brad will no doubt be questioned, hope he buries it as a rumour. So no one on BF can confirm if this contract has been offered? To be honest I don’t think he will move and the media will destroy our repetition of our ability to land a big fish

If not, personally I am not ready for another “it’s happening”

I'm curious to know, in these types of trade scenarios, how often are players involved going back the other way?

Kennedy for Judd is one I can think of. Geelong threw in a spud in the Dangerfield deal. Any others?

The team losing the player can bleat and posture all they like but they rarely if ever get what they want.

If this deal gets done, I'm sure Grubby Allen won't want be be consulting to a club thst gets rodgered at the trade table.
