Still not as bad as the Northern States Academies
That’s got no relevance to my point or part of this discussion.

Because they’re not being used as the AFL intended. Nor are teams like Collingwood doing anything more than the bare minimum to access talent already in the system and part of the elite pathways.

They got Isaac Quaynor 2 drafts ago. They have a potential top 10 tall big bodied, goal scoring mid this year. A dynamic small wing next year who was an AA at the U16 championships last year.
All members of the current top NAB League team, the Oakleigh Chargers, so they’re getting the best junior coaching.
So they’re getting first access to highly rated talent, above their draft position, with minimal financial or developmental coaching commitment from their club.
They also have father son prospect Nick Daicos next year, who is talked up by Cal Twomey.
So next year it’s knowing how Collingwood can use the draft points system to their advantage to access potential top talent.

Who’s the dynamic small wing we are getting?
Collingwood will keep him if it's their choice, no questions. He's hugely marketable, he has potential to be a top level game breaker in the AFL (he is at times but not consistent enough yet to be labelled a top 10 player in the AFL), he's got that 1 on 1 ability forward that's hard to find, he is multi positioned being very good through the midfield as well. Picks don't really help Collingwood right now given they are arguably right in a flag window now.
JDG will get a heap of opportunities at Collingwood to build his own personal brand as well if that's what he wants to do (see Dusty with Puma, his own clothing line, etc.). He can set himself up for life at the Pies a lot better than he could at some other clubs. And likely, unless he's traded to another premiership contender, which few would be able to afford him/have currency to trade, there's no point him walking out. You'd have to give a Franklin or Dusty like deal to move him, and he's not worth that yet.
I don't see the Pies losing this one.

So they got one player who's been ok without setting the world in fire, one who hasn't been drafted but could be decent (what's his name?) and one who has shown good signs as a junior.

Well the Northern State ones give a Massive Advantage as you can get them Very Young and Work with them until they are Draft Age and That even them playing AFL and not other Sports
The northern state academies are genuine academies, with each club pumping hundreds of thousands dollars each year in to their academies, employing dozens of development coaches and staff. With each academy having multiple hubs because of the size of each clubs zone.
Where as the nga academies for most vic clubs barely meet the definition of academy.
We had to wait 5 years for our first kids to come through our academies as we have time requirements on our kids being eligible. Where as you guys were drafting kids 4 months after “setting up” your academies.

You mean like Jacob Hopper, Matt Kennedy and Harry Perryman all 1st rounders who played Under 18 TAC Cup in Victoria. Who really 'developed' them? Or Harrison McCreadie who never played TAC Cup was developed through the Northern academy, yet didn't get drafted by his Team.
Didn't Richmond get a few Brisbane academy players. If they were so well developed and Brisbane rated them, why didn't they draft them? They could have always gone into point deficit.
IQ hasn't played a game and the other 2 haven't even been drafted. Long bow there rooster.

TBH with Richmond taking those Lions academy players is the system working perfectly. Expanding the player pool through QLD prospects.
Northern clubs don’t have to draft our academy kids when they’re bid on.
Sometimes we don’t have enough draft picks to match every bid.
Sometimes, especially later in the draft, list needs may influence who gets drafted.
In regards to Cumberland and Martyn drafted by Richmond, we had one draft pick and corresponding list spot left. We could never match bids for both players.
Our coaches see these kids every week, if there is anyone who knows our academy kids, it’s us. So you know, if we decide not to match a bid, it’s because we don’t rate the kid highly enough, or...
We had other list needs at that point in the draft.

I'd hope my Club goes after him and pays overs. there's no chance of that though since i'm a Crows fan lol who the hell would want to be a Crow, they don't even have club rooms, more of a Franchise or Business than club.

His Value would of gone down since start of the Season
Considering quiet a few had him penciled in for AA, his start has been a shocker. To me he doesn’t look fit enough. To get to the elite level he needs to get a lot fitter. Otherwise play him deep forward. Not great for a contract year.
Yeah he has been pretty poor so far this year despite all the media fanboys.
Play him deep and let him do his thing.
The thing is, he’s been more influential in the middle for us this year. His confidence is shot up forward and that’s where he has been going missing. When you can’t kick them for 30 out right in front it’s going to play with your mind.
