Yep. At least it would have been fairSo big clubs can just poach players that have been developed by smaller clubs, even paying them less money?
Yep. Would encourage clubs to be better The cap space is what you receive ala the NBA.
Didn't realise the Hawks were a big club. And we lost the biggest free agent in the history of the game so your point is mute.well it's good to see the fans of the big clubs finally admit that free agency is more beneficial to them than the smaller clubs
Jack gunstan ?Didn't realise the Hawks were a big club. And we lost the biggest free agent in the history of the game so your point is mute.
He was contracted at the lions and we traded for Gunners!Jack gunstan ?
But you got him back !

So now you're not a big clubDidn't realise the Hawks were a big club. And we lost the biggest free agent in the history of the game so your point is mute.
What did that have to do with a half arsed compo system? So now you're not a big club
I wouldn't use lance as an example. The AFL thought he was off to GWS. Cracked the shits when they discovered it was Sydney.
Asking the wrong guy... you brought up lance not me.What did that have to do with a half arsed compo system?
The compo calc isn’t the problem. It’s the contending club getting the player from the lower club only giving up cap space. Cap space except for Collingwood under Ned guy (who got moved to the AFL as reward for his incompetence) has hardly ever forced a contending club into losing players. What should happen is a value is calculated and the receiving club forced to match it like a bid, but under new matching rules where 2 picks to match maximum.
Contender gets player and gives up 2 good picks
Sender gets cap relief and the compo pick
It’s essentially a trade but without the ability of the sender to block it.
Gets very interesting if they do get an early compo pick. Would stkilda trade say pick 5 and 6 for 1?
Not in this draft.Gets very interesting if they do get an early compo pick. Would stkilda trade say pick 5 and 6 for 1?
I wouldn’t think so either. Unless a standout does emergeNot in this draft.

Not a chance in hell would we do that.I think they would be mad to do that, given how even the draft is meant to be.
SOS will be looking at volume IMO.
Wants to go to his boyhood clubSo Battle goes to Hawthorn which allows them to roll Scrimshaw and Sicily off the big boys.
Is there anyone other than Hawthorn coming hard for him?
Collingwood were also into him.So Battle goes to Hawthorn which allows them to roll Scrimshaw and Sicily off the big boys.

Funny how Victorian teams get band 1 for pretty darn average players.I have no issues with the Saints getting band 1 after the Roos got band 1 for McKay & Frawley got for the Dees.
We have a similar offer on the table for Perryman who may also get band 1 compensation, imagine the salty comments after that...
The only logical way to fix this is the compensation needs to change so that band 1 is not in the first round but end of first.
If players like McKay, Battle etc were given pick 19 as compo noone would care.
A player you could have matched and opted not too.Funny how Victorian teams get band 1 for pretty darn average players.
Then Brad Crouch comes along and nope.
