System works well...
Unrestricted free agent Defender leaves - Compo pick 8
Contracted (3 years) Defender leaves - Trade Pick 16/17
If pick 16/17 isnt good enough, your club doesn't have to trade him. Hold him to his contract or demand more in return.

The FA compensation has nothing to do with what your list management team accepts for contracted players.

I don’t care about NGA’s. Most likely the clubs wouldn’t have access to them, but this battle pick devalues three of our picks because they’re live.

AFL can **** off
I don’t really understand this ‘ignoring father-son and academy bids’ thing.

Indulge me in a scenario. Midfielder Bob Wakner from Freo has requested a trade to the Hawks. Everyone agrees his value is pick 20 or thereabouts.
  • At the end of the season the Hawks hold picks 10 and 18 in the draft.
  • It’s a hot year for father-son and academy prospects, so much so that every second pick in the first round is projected to go to matching bids (2, 4, 6, 8, 10 etc..)
  • Two first round compo picks are also granted by the AFL, at 5 and 15.
Do you really accept pick 18 (becomes 20 after compo, but 37 after matching bids)?
Or do you demand pick 11 (becomes 12 after compo, but 20 after matching bids)?

To me it doesn't matter if you had access to the matched players or not, you're not getting fair value in the trade, even though fair value is available.

Sooo we still get hurt. Freo get hurt more than anyone in these ridiculous compos
I think all clubs bar the one getting the compo get hurt.
But this is where clubs that are astute in managing their salary cap will benefit in future years through picks for cap space and taking on ridiculous contracts.

Perryman, Battle and Cumming surely shouldn’t be too 5% wage earners in the AFL.

The original question is why are Freo fans are upset, we have lost the most on the Battle decision. We have every right to be pissed off, that's all their is too it.

Cumming hasnt gotten band 1 yet as he? But yes, watch Collingwood dump Perryman in 4 years with more than half of his 6 contract left still to pay

I thought the line was $900000?
This is where the President of your football club comes in. Get him to publicly spit the dummy and voila. I'm kidding of course the AFL determine the comp and its secret herbs and spices mate.

Cumming compo hasn’t been announced.
But let’s not be surprised when it’s band one and GWS hold the equal most first rounders in the draft as any other club for the loss of two players that aren’t in their top dozen.

The hawks front ended it. Pushed the average over 900 because you only take into account 5 years. This is all hawthorns fault. 😂
