Funny how Victorian teams get band 1 for pretty darn average players.
Then Brad Crouch comes along and nope.
I love how non Victorian team supporters constantly complain about Vic's getting it better than their team. How many times in the last 10 years have you played Saints in Victorian?

Because its based on the Salary package they get , not how average or not they are.

So not its not funny at all. Makes perfect sense to most people.

Now the Kurt Tippet scenario....that was funny.

Mate they made finals last year. And now they need some help? Spare me.
mate i dont want stkilda to get another pick in the first round but if hawthorn give battle a bunch of money that it gets them a first round pick what can we do, go email your club and say dont offer a contract to josh battle so we all happy about stkilda not getting a high pick.

Josh won’t go unless it triggers band one. If it doesn’t we will offer him enough to stay. Pick 5 come on down

Doing the right thing by the Saints. What a load of rot!!!!
He'd sign with them now or earlier if that was true.
It is about getting the best deal for Battle. Not Saints or Hawks.
That's his prerogative.
He loves the club.

Him leaving has nothing to do with being underpaid at stkilda or not enjoying his football or being unhappy.

Hawthorn is his boyhood club but he wants to ensure the right thing is done by the saints. Ie leaving on a band 1 deal.

He isn’t leaving for sub band 1 money when he has had that money on offer since March at the Saints.

The saints are looking at this as better draft compensation than what Battle would fetch on the market.

It will ensure no bad blood and everyone is happy.

Band 1 saints.
Best money for Battle
Hawks get the player and have to lose 0 assets.

I think it's funnier that a club that only exists on AFL welfare managed to be fined for salary cap breaches in 2005, 2006 AND 2008.

I would have thought St Kilda would have rather spent its money on things other than AFL fines.

No one leaving a club gives a crap about making sure they get well compensated.

They only care if it stops the club preventing their departure, but that's not relevant in this case.

He wants his best possible deal, and you'll get what you deserve.

The article from Ralph mentioned $5M for 6 years which isn't the $950K he said on the same article will be band 1. It's around $850K which is probably around this value with the new CBA, the Hawks are reportedly only offering Perryman $650K.

As we saw with McKay last year, compo is well and truly another AFL stuff up if clubs can manipulate a contract to get Band 1 compo for a battler like Battle.

If it has to exist at all, Band 1 should never be before all non finalists have had their first round pick used.

Compo bands, F/S academies NGAs, farcical points table, junk picks for top 3 players - the AFL has a ship load to fix but seem completely incapable.

1.5 Milliion this year for McKay.
The whole idea was that if a gun player is poached from a bottom dweller, they can less afford to lose them, and should be compensated better.
The concern was that players would constantly desert the lower teams to go to finalists.

Essendon offer McKay $850K last year, very doubtful they or any other club would offer that for Battle if he was also available as a FA last year. The Hawks are reportedly offering him around $850K this year which is the same as $750K last year before the CBA increase so upper end of band 2 compensation which is his market value.

It will need to be more than $900k.

It has to be in the top 44 contracts, and next year 50+ players will be on a million bucks.
It has to be in the top 44 contracts on average salary for 2024.

Not 2025 and beyond.

By the time he joins the Hawks. He will have a band 1 contract.

Both clubs have offers of 850k infront of him as of June. It’s only going up if it hasn’t already.
