Opposition teams preaching to Brisbane about how to go about trading fairly (no indication they are not regardless) - cute :)

Where were you all when we were getting repeatedly targeted and savaged during this period? Yeo, Docherty, Polec etc?

Ask crazy Vossy.

Brisbane has a backbone about them now and a strong list and culture. It's a credit to them.

But everyone likes to see someone who gets a bit too big for their boots brought down a peg. Nothing sinister.

How is it not similar? 12 and 19, a mid first round and an early second round.

vs

Future 1st (currently 15) and 21, a mid first round and early second round. And pick 15 next year is going to be much more valuable than pick 12 this year if the reports about the 2023 draft are to be believed.
12 v 15 - It's a 20% better pick if you break them into groups of 3. 20% of something is not similar.

19 v 21 - 19 gets you first look on night 2, which has been shown recently to be quite advantageous, as other clubs also jostle for that pick and give you an opportunity at moving up into next years draft. It's also (roughly) a 10% better pick. Diminishing returns.

But most of all we can't even say it's pick 15. It's likely, but it could also be 16, 17 or 18. Or 19, or 20-something if father-sons / academy kids come through. The likelihood of Brisbane falling out of the 8, which is essentially what is required to "even things up" is close to nil, after all, you're adding another clubs BnF, another clubs third highest goalkicker (both with a stack of finals experience), the no 1 draft pick, and a fellow touted first rounder. While losing only McStay of any note.

And I don't buy any of that next years draft bullshit, they basically say that about every draft.

Brisbane has been pretty good at picking the eyes out of other clubs recently without having to pay up.

McCarthy
Cockatoo
Daniher

Getting Daniher then smoothing the contract out after the fact without the AFL coming down on them like a ton of bricks still had everyone wondering wtf happened.

They've just trodden a little too far past the line with this one.

Expecting a best and fairest winning premiership player to come at a discount with a competent list manager pulling the strings on the other side might just see them with egg on their face.
So we get blamed for good list management. We picked up players in opportune times. Those clubs agreed to the deals did they not? So what’s the issue? I really don’t understand what else you want us to do in this instances. If we did well out of deals in hindsight that’s good list management.

Cockatoo has proven he wasn’t worth anything. So arguablely we got screwed by Geelong! We will remember that one!!

Geelong had no pull with McCarthy. What could you possibly have asked for in that case with his injury history and lack of game time? Any other club could have put faith in him but they didn’t. We backed ourselves in.

We also paid for Neale and Beams. Even guys like Adams. All deals were mutually beneficial at the time. We probs paid overs at the time if anything. Even pick 12 for Cameron was seen us overs at the time for a small forward.

No one here even knows what is going on behind the scenes regarding this deal. Why get all worked up and act like anyone actually has any influence?
It boggles the mind. You would think after, what ?30+ years, of trade week people would understand the process and not get so worked up without knowing what's happening behind the scenes.

Clubs clearly don’t have that long a memory, given we traded Schache (pick 2) to the dogs for literally peanuts.

Worked out for us in the end lol but at the time it was one of the most one sided trades ever.

Lol that's not comparable at all. Schache was on the scrap heap and looked like he was never gonna make it. Same has happened at the Dogs, so his original drafted position means nothing. Paddy Dow was drafted at Pick 3 just a few years ago, and Carlton will be lucky if they can get themselves a Pick in the 40's for him - if not just free to good home and freeing up salary cap.

Dunkley is a B+F winner in a midfield with Bont, Macrae. Libba and Bailey Smith. You called him their '4th best mid'...yet he was their best this year.

Given you guys asked for 30, 39 and a Future 3rd back for two late firsts, you guys aren't seen to be operating in good faith. On top of that, when that offer failed you got rid of 15 and downgraded to 21 and offered that...which is why the PSD is now being dangled as a real threat. Offer needs to get better and you guys need to start acting in better faith, or the deal will fall over.

It's not like the Dogs have asked for two top 10 picks like they did last time around for Essendon. They were willing to accept two late 1sts, to get the deal done. You guys have since thrown that out the window, asked for plenty back for that barely acceptable offering, and then downgraded your picks and made your offer even worse. It reeks of self-interest, rather than just getting the deal done and acting in good faith.

I don’t know mate, I’m not an AFL list manager. How would you rate him? Clearly too good for VFL but not good enough to reliably break into a premiership contending midfield, but still young and has shown improvement every year.
I'd rate him lke everyone else does. He'll be 26 at the start of next season, and can't break into a side that had Cam Ellis-Yolmen playing mid in must win finals / was clearly crying out for a hard-nosed ball magnet otherwise why would you be chasing Josh Dunkley.

Mid 40's pick at ABSOLUTE best.

Let's not go re-writing history now. There's already enough angst in this thread..

You are such a sook. It’s quite embarrassing. The poster you are talking to isn’t even on the Lions staff??

Lolll...says the poster who just cracked it over an impartial observation from someone who doesn't agree with their club's position.

Little piece of advice bud - if you need to resort to calling someone a sook over what is basically just an observational, analytical comment - then maybe you're the one who's projecting.

But keep calling me names because you can't take critical commentary, I'm sure that won't get you a thread ban at all :)

What trade negotiation for a star player ever starts with one team starting in the middle? Poor work from your list management if that’s the case.
Our trade negotations started with "we believe Josh to be worth two mid-first rounders, but realise Brisbane have limited assets due to Father-Son picks, so we'll begrudgingly settle for your two late first-rounders."

You know, sensibly, and not insultingly.
