Don't mind it as an abstract concept. Although most in the non higher leagues do so for a variety of reasons (talent, time attitude) have always thought there might be hidden gems out there that a great eye would spot that just need the right environment, push or chance to shine.

You're thinking of Paul Meldrum and he didn't exactly walk in off the street but he had a similar story to Lai as in talent-spotted, etc.

Very superficial analysis though. The guy played zero footy in 2023, then one reserves & then into the seniors in 2024, eventually starring in the GF and awarded BOG.
