Meanwhile Lovett Murray and McVeigh get the same penalty for bumping.

Great for the kids to know that eye gouging now equals the same as a bump.

Got off very light... but I'd be lying if I said I was surprised.

Fortunately the damage to his reputation will carry on long after his suspension has been served.

Certainly not the squeaky clean poster boy he used to be.

2 weeks is fair. Absolutely no need to casually bend over a player on his back and do what Judd did. Whether it was an eye poke, attacking a pressure point :)confused:) or scratching his nose, I know if an opposition player did it to one of our boys I'd want them rubbed out, too.

Stupid by Judd but hopefully it means our mids will take some responsibility onto themselves knowing they'll start next year without Juddy by their side.

If you think it's worth anything more, you are kidding yourselves. While it was idiotic, it wasn't forceful enough to justify a larger penalty.

Can't be eye gouging if there is no contact with the eye you fool  Still rediculous to put your fingers on your oponents face for no reason !

Just for those Blue fans still in denial...

Apparently it can, according to the wise sages on BigFooty.

I gather he was charged under the "unnecessary contact to the face" misconduct rule? Which is what I thought actually occurred.

Anyway, I have no sympathy for him, what he did was stupid and looked awful. No problems with his being charged and suspended at all.

As to the appropriate length of the suspension, well that can be argued ad infinitum - I would have thought 3-4 myself, so probably about right.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 243.75 points and a two-match sanction.

Can't really argue with that.

That is a finger in the eye.
Eyelid looks closed to me. And the finger looks like it is in the corner of the socket.

Don't get me wrong, I am not defending what he did for one second. But my understanding of eye gouging is forceful contact with the eyeball.

Does the AFL actually have a definition?

Thought one would learn - do it once and escape - thank the player who helped you get off and never do it again as your rep has been saved.

Do it again and be treated like a fool by fans from all footy sides. Next season when he returns the fans should wear an eye patch and call it the Judd protection device......
