Judd was a freak, but not anymore

He has lost pace and doesn't break all those tackles he used to. Ablett is the freak now and is doing what Judd did at WC. I don't think Judd will be the same player he was. He's pretty much about to enter the 2nd half of his career. He's still a quality player though

Had you been following the game as a "mad tiger" for longer than 2006, you'd know that Judd has rarely dominated against Adelaide.

The word freak is overused these days, i've heard it applied to run of the mill plyers like gibbs. The real freaks would have to be guys like Franklin and Garry ablett, even joel selwood for what he's been able to do so early in his career.

it's not a crime to be bloody stupid and act like a porkchop; but that doesn't mean you have to.

it is not obligatory.

judd is setting up carlton. showing the young fellas how to do it old gun to new gun. he got very heavly tagged today. he cant do much about that

He may not be the pack breaking goal kicker he once was, he's still a champion player that is one of (if not the) best clearance player in the league. He steps up in crunch time and can carry a team to a win.

Don't ever knock a champion, he will be back to his best.

Might have something to do with the cattle around him now compared to his days at West Coast Madtugger.

Cousins, Kerr, Cox & Judd >>>>> Stevens, Murphy, Cloke & Judd

At West Coast he also had blockers like Stenglien, Chick & Braun who used to make it easier for Judd to clear a path for himself. This year he is too busy trying to break tackles.

Carltons Midfield will get better Kreuzer, Gibbs and Murphy still developing, you may find Judd's influence is still to come.

Average half back flanker now.

This year Ablett has had just as good a season as any midfielder including Judd, and will continue this way for most of his career.
I agree, barring any injury. But there's no possible way you can predict that. You'd have said the same thing about Judd a year ago.. don't jinx the poor guy.

still a gun, but will never look as good as he did by virtue of the fact he'll never play with the same quality midfield again.

Just because he doesn't play the way he used doesn't mean he still isn't a freak.

Look how many contested possessions he gets.

Even when tackled he nearly always manages to get his arms free and dish off a handball, his handballs under extreme pressure rarely miss the target.

His kicking is elite and he is rarely ever brought to the ground.

He is still a freak, just a different one than what he once was.

What a quality assessment. Good to see that not everyone on Bigfooty is one eyed. Judd is tremendous. This year, he might not be as flashy or as blistering as before, but he still possesses such strength that he is virtually never tackled to the ground.

Not at all. I am actually very glad we got Cotchin instead. Cotchin, Deledio, Foley will be one of the most dangerous midfields in the comp soon. A better trio than Judd, Gibbs, Murphy imo. Murphy does let himself down with some bad kicking occasionally

A better trio?? That's funny.

consdering judd is past his peak and he is 25,

lets see how good he will be when he is 33,

my guess he will be long retired

He is still only 24 & yes he will probably be retired by 33 because football isn't the be all & end all for him. In the mean time he will play another 6-7 seasons of football & there is no reason why he won't win at least another Brownlow Medal in that time & play in a premiership side or two.

I just wish opposition coaches would adopt the same attitude as some BigFooty posters & write Judd off. Then he wouldn't get physically & sexually assaulted by some of the parasites, oops I mean taggers, running around in the AFL. Certainly last week when Rodney Eade decided not to tag Judd, Judd demonstrated just how good & dangerous he is.

The guys still a gun, You just had to watch todays game.

He plays a different game to what he did at WC. He doesnt carry the ball much anymore and go for his gut busting runs, He doesnt do much running amymore. He mainly just gets quick centre clearences and sets up goals.

Thats his new role at Carlton and does it beautifully, You just had to watch the start of the last quater to see him set up the first 2 goals to get them back into the game.

Agree with this post completely. Judd will get back to his best, maybe even better. Come next year he should be over his groin problem, and the young carlton guns will all have another year under the belt. They will grow stronger together, which is quite scarey.

Today i enjoyed seeing the blues butcher their chances of making the finals. Judd left us for shits, and the reality is his impact is huge even with out being at his best. It is obviously shown by the correlation of fortunes of the clubs he has played for. Eagles drop & Carlton rise.

Hopefully for the coasters though, our own quality youth injection added with the talent to be picked up this coming draft will put us in good stead.

Carlton will improve dramatically, but watch out for those cruel footy gods that striked west coast down last year. The Blues dodginess in recent times may attract their attention too

Chris Judd is still a gun player in this competition, and will remain so for quite some time. He hasn't had a bad year by any stretch as it is, and I get the feeling 2009 is going to be a huge year for the magenious.

Rowan Jones made a career on blocking for Judd.

ok he us 25 next month,

my point still stands

anyone writing juddy off completely is being very foolish, and not one of the other 15 AFL coaches will be doing it.

come 2009 he'll have a full pre-season under his belt and be back to full fitness.

He was run into the ground last year, had no pre season. 2008 was never going to be his best and yet he is still being talked about in some circles as an all australian.

on current form he is obviousbly not the best player, but lets not forget the first 8 weeks of last season he was absolutely stunning (thats only 63 or 64 weeks ago. its not like were talking about a 30 year old here. he's a young fella he should be able to come back from injury)...

its pretty obvious at the present time Ablett is the best young midfielder running around, brent harvey the dominant wise man of the competition, and franklin, cox and j brown are the three dominant big men.

where judd will fit in will become much clearer in 2009.

IF he was still at the same level of 2008 i think it'd be fair to say he's not quite the force he was but still one of the best players running around.
