No offence but this discussion is really not required.

Fact. If Maxwell was playing at any other club he would most likely not even get a game and he has become the Filth's captain. What a joke !!

Shows how badly they lack talent .

Any they think they are premiership contenders :p

in my opinion maxwell is a much better captain than judd, he plays for the colours unlike judd who only plays for his back pocket.

Seriously Troll are you a moron or really just stupid ???

You post threads asking if Gibbs will ever be a premier midfielder and then state Maxwell is a better captain than Judd.

Dude..are you on drugs like your new recruit ???

This is coming from a club whose last captain got caught pissing outside a Police Station...say no more.

Now go back under that bridge you crawled out from..you Troll.

Totally agree. Any other so-called champion would have gone to the club paying him the least amount of money.

Im with you Thy.......I was offered a big job at Mac Bank last year, turned it down and decided to go for the one at the salvos......I know i made the right choice

I guess you must be distraught then that in recent years you've not only failed to play finals (which aren't enough to please you Carlton supporters anyway -- because, you know, you're all so awesome you're not pleased with anything less than a flag), but you've also racked up wooden spoons along the way.

BTW I'm pretty impressed by the 'pathetic' and 'toothless' jibes. It shows the kind excellence in off-field abuse that Carlton has shown in their onfield endeavours. (Bit disappointed, though, that you didn't squeeze 'feral' in somewhere.)

Agreed, we have got 4 wooden spoons in the last 7 years since our last finals appearance and I also agree that you have played in finals in that time but lets have a look at that now...

What did you guys achieve in that period..2 grand final losses and no premiership to show for it. You started rebuilding when you recruited Malthouse but when will you accept that you have failed and need to start again...!!!!

Fact..you have underachieved and your time is over. You had your chances and you blew them. Your recruitment program has been topping up with club rejects like Andrew Williams, Chad Rintoul, Chad Morrison, Scott Cummings, Blake Caracella , Chris Bryan and Cameron Wood which leaves you with 2008 drafting Leigh Brown out of desperation to try and squeeze one more finals appearance. Your only successful trade was Medhurst.

I know Carlton have recruited many duds also in that time but that was because we were banned from participating from 2 years drafts so it was done out of no choice. In that time but, we have traded/recruited for Judd, Stevens , Warnock, Hadley who will all become premiership players with the blues..BTW Judd and Hadley are already premeirship players and one is a Brownlow medalist and they all nominated that they wanted to come to Carlton not Collingwood..and stop sooking about Stevens. Blame Choko your ex player not us...!!!

Make that 3 wooden spoons & your post looks much better.

So that's why they say Thank God For The Aissassins?

This is one of the great BF topics of all time who was the genius that thought it up.

To inject a little clarity into the argument I thought I would add the following

1. Judd is a sensational player, best in the AFL in my opinion. I see no reason if he is injury free he cant return to his best and he needs to if he is going to be rated with the recent greats of the midfield (Voss Hird Buckly Riccuito Harvey) by career end. He is also a good captain although not convinced this is a role that comes as naturally to him as Voss Hird etc.

2. Maxwell doesnt have anywhere the strings to his bow that Judd does. He is not near the best player at Collingwood and its plausible that a loss in form could see him dropped (its worth noting that he has never been dropped in his career to date)

3. Maxwell excells as a leader, he naturally takes on leadership roles around the club and mentoring roles with younger players. On the field he is extroverted and gravites towards taking control of situations on the field. These attributes stamp him as a potentially very good captain and I can his playing ability being enhanced by the additional responsibity. In short I see him as a bloke who actively seeks leadership roles and thrives on them

4. Judd is clearly the better person to be captain of your team and if he was at Collingwood there is no doubt he would have that role. We dont have a "Judd" but Maxwell could end up being a very good choice but does pose a risk.

5. Some of the arguments put up in this thread wouldnt even cut in a grade three playground. The Pies and the Blues both have good young lists at the moment but both still carry structual flaws. It is folly for either to suggest that success is there for the taking. There is still work to be done on both teams. I can understand why both sets of supporters believe "their" team is in a bettter position than the other. time will tell who is correct.

6. Collingwood suffered for many years by living in the past and on old glories. It wasnt until Leigh Matthews/Tony Shaws time and even more so under the current regieme the the club stopped being so backward facing. For any one to suggest ,as some have here, that Malthouse/ Maguire/ Buckley (in his time) etc are bent on anything other than premiership successs and have been satisfied with where the Pies have got to in recent years is lamebrained

7. Carlton need to be careful of falling into the same trap. If they simply believe that they are the sleeping giant about to awake and that is all it will take to step back to their halycon days they could get a shock. The world has changed, you cant play Lord of the Manor anymore. Carlton may be getting back to being able to "Talk the Talk" but it remains to be seen if they can 'Walk the Walk"

8 Me! I hope you crawl forever. Then again you wouldnt expect me to pray for anything less.

No offense, but that was a very dull post. Let me summarize the situation for you. Judd is the best footballer and best captain in the AFL. Maxwell is a no-talent, last resort captaincy choice by the Pies. The Pies choice just highlights the lack of talent and leadership on the Pies list. Pies will finish bottom 4 in 2009. :)

I reckon Swan looks more the goods to me. Oh, and the Duddy Juddy thing?

Playing Honours
Carlton Captain 2008; Brownlow Medal 2004, 3rd 2006; Best & Fairest 2004 & 2006, Runner-up 2003 & 2005, 3rd 2002; All-Australian 2004 & 2006; International Rules series 2002; AFL Players Association MVP 2006; Norm Smith Medal 2005; Premiership Captain 2006; Club Captain 2006 & 2007; AFL Rising Star nominee 2002.

No offense taken. I agree it was a dull post but pretty true just the same. I am sorry I didnt have the witty retorts you specalise in. Your insightful cogent arguments are hard to top. Gotta agree that our youthful developing list who keep finishing top 8 and winning finals whilst rebuilding and being hit by injuries and suspensions has to plunge to bottom 4 this year.

After missing significant parts of 08 cant see how full and productive seasons from Didak, Heath Shaw, Rocca, Rusling, Fraser, Leon Davis, Ben Reid, Presti and Brad Dick could be of any benefit to the team.

Young developing players who already entrenched themselves in the team such as Pendlebury, Thomas, Cloke, Marty Clarke, Nathan Brown, Harry O'Brien and Goldsack could hardly benefit from another preseason under their belt. Surely high placings in B&Fs, state representations, international rules games and performing in high pressure finals matches were just flukes in ones so young, destined never to be repeated again.

Dont start me on the likes of Swan and Medhurst. I mean their age must surely tell against them. B&Fs , high brownlow finishes and AA representation are alright in your CV but who could expect that output to continue in players in their mid twenties, their time is up.

Dawes, Wellingham, McCarthy, Cook, Wood, John Anthony etc who all looked impressive when getting time in the seniors in 08 have surely peaked and have no more to give.

Your right Parrot cant see where the improvemnts are coming from. You might be able to give me a few tips on how to keep my spirits up when facing year upon year in the doldrums. Abandoning logic, judgement and intelligent argument seems to have worked well for you.
