Doesn't the location of the hand bag raise any alarms?

Her handbag was never found. Neither incidentally, were the murdered girls handbags ever found.

Julie's work shirt and a pair of pantyhose were found in a plastic bag under a table in a retail food outlet.

If Julie Cutler was in fact "out on the town" around the pubs and Clubs of the CBD and perhaps the Burswood Casino then this fits in with the puzzle of her work clothes reported being left at the reported Kebab shop, If she were leaving her car at the Hotel carpark then the one thing she might want to retrieve before accepting a lift or hailing a taxi would be the bag with her work uniform so she could wash and prepare it before returning to work and picking up the car the next day.
However I do not see any kebab shop dealing with drunks and late night revellers having a lost property department.
An american style eatery called Cosmos which had very high narrow diner style bench tables in the arcade is much more likely. It was very popular with a high turnover and you had to literally slide into your seat. people left bags of shopping, handbags, purses etc on the seats every hour without fail. They did keep a well stocked lost property room out the back and would have been one of the few places that would have held onto items for a year or more before binning them.

Could Julie walk to either to the kebab shop or Cosmos from the Parmelia? And would she have gone in alone presumably to eat? I haven't seen reports of anyone saying they were with her after she left work. Also, she's being pegged in places you'd assume she'd need money when her purse was left at home.

Bit suss on it being Julie who left her clothes behind in a plastic bag, could be a red herring gift.

What was the Kabab place called ?

Yes it was walkable if you had too but in the CBD there were limited Cabs doing the rounds from one Pub and Club to eateries like Fat Eddies and back and people just used to pile into any available cab splitting the fare. The cabs would begrudgingly do these short trips waiting for the fare they wanted to arrive.....home to ...Fremantle, Whitfords or the suburbs....
Agree about the purse, the whole idea of the night is she is doing it on the cheap though.....staff drinks, shared lifts, maybe twenty bucks tucked into the bra as backup,...a friendly stranger willing to shout a coffee or a feed......?

The Parmelia Hilton would have laundered uniforms - doesn’t make sense to take uniform to a kebab shop really - agree could be a red herring.

Quote from the article linked above:

"The Government is also "prepared to consider recommending a protection from prosecution or pardon" for anyone with information which leads to the conviction of other people, provided the informer was not directly responsible for her disappearance.

WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said cold case homicide squad detectives had launched a fresh investigation following an extensive review of the case."

"The whole circumstances surrounding Julie's disappearance was very much out of character and the circumstances with the vehicle and where it was located is highly unusual".

"Mr Cutler said he felt the State Government and WA Police "had (his) back".
"It's probably been the best thing in the 30 years since she's gone missing," he said."

Trying to work this scrape ... not a car accident prior imo. Does anybody else think this might actually be the tow chain as the car has turned on the way back in?

Possibly. Though I keep thinking knee high wall . Chain loop fence also fits ie the pole causes the hole in the door.

Or even something like these

Having seen the new photo, could the back seat really have floated out of there?

Looks pretty mangled but that back seat was in two pieces, I think maybe it could have before the pillars collapsed. Lot of the damage might have been done dragging it in.

What a mess.

As the thirty year anniversary of the Cutler mystery approaches, it was interesting to read the recent press release from the WAPOL bumblers.
Firstly the police speak " we remain committed to finding the person or persons responsible" seems to mirror the sentiment prior to the arrest of BRE when police were sprouting that they were confident the CSK case would eventually be solved.
We also had one of the lead investigators from 1988 being acknowledged, and expressing his regret that the case was not solved at the time, and his hope for the sake of the family that it eventually is.
WAPOL are usually very coy about promoting discussion about the numerous murder cases they have cocked up and mismanaged unless they are pretty sure they have finally nailed it.
Also a couple of small but significant previously unreleased tidbits of information released that they have been sitting on for nearly thirty years,,,the WA boys only tend to do this when they are confident that it is of no use to them anymore .....cannot help but wonder if developments may finally be afoot in this one...

The " white noise" from Wapol is getting louder... ,,,, we progress from the last 30 years statement that" Julie was last SEEN at her car at the carpark at 12.30 am" to now Julie DROVE her car from the carpark "...off to Burswood...? home...? hints of new info, rewards, peoples memories being jogged....talk of pardons for assistance,,,,,charges laid soon.?
Have been fascinated by this Cutler case for decades and always felt it was the key to catching a crafty and ruthless serial killer....
Assistance from someone..?. the killer would have been flat out getting everything done by dawn if the car went into the sea on the night Julie was abducted...
Did he need a lift.? a tow .? ride home from Cottesloe>? an alibi, ? from who...? family member...? mate ...? co offender...?
Fingers crossed soon we might have some answers......

Young and fit he could have run and been three or four suburbs away in time to catch the 6.00am bus rest of the way home.

"Ms Cutler was at a staff awards night on June 19, 1988. She went to her car with a female colleague late that evening, where they parted ways and Ms Cutler returned briefly to the function.

She was last seen alive leaving the Parmelia Hilton car park in her Fiat sedan about 12.30am on June 20, 1988.

Mr Dawson said the cold case homicide squad had launched a fresh investigation into Ms Cutler’s disappearance after an extensive review of the case.

He said they had spoken to dozens of people but were still hoping to hear from any of her workmates who had been at the function that night and anyone else who might have information.

“There is fresh information, which I will not expand on, but we are asking… anyone who does have any information about Julie’s disappearance"
