It's still on the beach, I doubt anything would have been moved. But it was the 80's ..

EDIT: Hang on, not so sure it's still on the beach at all

Not sure if anyone here has seen that the Crime Stoppers WA website has been updated with Julie's case as well as a few other muders and missing people. A very interesting read.

That is good thank you PP .

Quote from the article :
VEHICLE LOCATED:
"About 11.45am on Wednesday 22 June 1988, Miss Cutler’s car was located several metres off the shore-line at Cottesloe Beach by a swimmer.
The car was about half way between the Surf Life Saving Club and the groyne.
At this time the car was upside down, half buried in the sand.
The rear seat of the vehicle was located separate to the vehicle."

Afterwards it might be Shellyg ,
i guess back in the compound where they cut the roof off.
Very interesting if that is the actual seat position because its very close forward.
The passenger seat might have normally been pushed back, i dont think it would be uncommon to do that.
Cant be sure of the story though, but with sand and corrosion it might have locked up and not easily moved / adjusted , post recovery.

Julie Cutler:
"Went to her vehicle close to the end of the function with a female work colleague.
Believed to have returned to the function.
Last seen driving her vehicle from the staff carpark of the Parmelia Hilton Hotel turning left onto Mounts Bay Road around 12.30am Monday 20 June 1988."

"She enjoyed reading, writing and socialising with friends. She was working casually at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel in Perth as a room attendant and lived in Fremantle with a female flat mate.

CASE DETAILS:
On the evening of Sunday 19 June 1988, Miss Cutler was working at the Parmelia Hilton Hotel, 14 Mill Street, Perth.
After finishing her shift, she attended a staff awards night at Julianna’s night club, which was part of the Parmelia Hilton.
It is believed that around 180 people attended this function until around 12.30am on Monday 20 June 1988.
Miss Cutler and a female co-worker left the work function, walking together to the staff parking area of the hotel.
Miss Cutler was seen by her co-worker bending into the open front passenger side door of her car. Miss Cutler’s car was a two-tone grey and black Fiat sedan registered number 6CW749.
It is believed that Miss Cutler then re-entered the hotel and function until it finished, before returning to her vehicle and driving away.
The Fiat sedan was last seen turning left from Mill Street onto Mounts Bay Road.
Miss Cutler did not arrive home in Fremantle that night. She did not attend work at the hotel for her rostered shift later that day.
In the morning of Tuesday 21 June 1988 Miss Cutler’s flat mate reported her missing."

Never read it anywhere before that she was actually seen driving her car out of the staff carpark.

Seems to me the police are slowly releasing more pieces of information. I know it's an anniversary but this has been going on for weeks. BREs back in court in just over a month ... and my nose is twitching.

That's a sieve where the back seat would have been so I suspect it may have been moved by forensics.

Is it right sprockets do you know, that the back seat of that Fiat is actually two pieces? The bench for sitting bums on and the back rest?

"I answered the Detectives questions and then enquired about the shirt.
He explained and then said it could have been anyone’s– so why weren’t we asked whether it was ours?
He said the shirt was a size 14 and Julie wasn’t that big – but they were really tiny shirts we all wore the next size or two up.
I forgot to ask about the tights – surely they can get DNA off a pair of tights?"

Pretty creepy her heading to Stirling Highway on your map. Police said there were reports of her perhaps being at Burswood Casino later but her purse was left at home.

Actually I have just re-read the article and may need to correct myself. It says her car was seen turning left onto Mount Bays Rd off of Mill Street. So it looks like she left Parmelia Hilton heading West before turning South onto Mount Bays Rd. This does take her toward Burswood rather than turn North taking her to Stirling Highway. Either way can take her home to Fremantle also and look a similar distance.

The car shown on the shore is in from the vicinity of the reef thats out a bit further from the shore, theres a small isolated patch. Its an odd bit of reef surrounded by sand. Easily seen in aerial photos.
From what i can see in the pictures and in particular these shots from the video.
Directly out from that area is a chunk of limestone rock reef - ive stood upon it and had a look.
When the police towtruck dragged the car in (upside down?) it may have dragged over the reef. It may have just been on sand but i think this may be the reason for the roof folded in, either way but the reef would be far more abrasive than just the plain sand bottom.
If the roof was crushed before it went into the ocean, it would have not been as easy for a driver to drive and escape , virtually impossible to drive on to the beach into the water. That is probably how it got in there, and i think it had to have been aggressively driven too.
The waves were up to 3 metres that morning 20th June 88. Cant have been easy to get that car out into the sea and nobody ever reveal how it happened.

who put the car into the water?

I guess the answer to that solves the case. I note the car was spotted Wednesday. Could it have been in the sea all that time? ie between Sunday till then? Does the rolling underwater explain some of the damage?
