The Northern Service now appears to have some stairs and a middle of path handrail in the section near the beach.

in regards to that longish pole which seems like a cctv camera in the middle there, am i correct? Or a light lamp maybe, I know it would not of existed back in 1988, but wow, sure wish it did off, it could of solved this case within 7 hours....[yes i know if it was there another road would of been used]

regarding this concrete question, about car and wall, surely it is not being suggested that concrete was found inside the car? or boot? or is it?

Julie’s dad received a random phone call from a woman claiming to be a detective or police officer, she asked him to confirm or comment on concrete blocks or a concrete block being found inside the car. Turns out she wasn’t a cop, the cops had no idea who she was and she didn’t give a name in the call. Speculation is that it was a prank or perhaps a journalist.

Taking this into a random direction - is it a possibility that someone threw a concrete block at the car - as a joke - that caused Julie to put her foot down?

Julie is heading to beach/hotel. Mistakes service road and drives down - someone throws block at car and she panics

Nobody dares admit they threw a block at car

There was no mention of any concrete blocks being found anywhere…though I’m guessing the info in the inquest was only the tip of the iceberg…

yes, will look into it tomorrow, it must of been of some interest to someone, and i'm interested to know also like that someone

I posted a case breakdown to reddit earlier today and someone raised the point of a possible accident, but my thought process is why would she go that way in the first place? She must have meant to go to the beach, it's a wee bit of a detour right?. Maybe she just wanted to take the scenic route since she supposedly loved Cott, but still. I do think driving off the road/missing the turn is a possibility but then I do still wonder why she went down there.

Julie apparently knew the beach well, not sure I can see her making a mistake like that taking the stepped road down there in a car that was her 'pride and joy'. It seems a very deliberate manouvre when there are two other wider entrances either side she could have taken and the entrance the other side of the boat shed.

Even if it was a mistake, she'd have known as soon as she hit the first set of steps at the top it was and put the brakes on, she could have slipped it in to neutral and gone down slowly since she probably couldn't back out but with that control wouldn't have smacked the car in to the wall.

This is interesting though, it only takes 15cm of water for a small car to float. If it was resting at the bottom on the shelf it could have just floated away in that storm.

Why she'd want to go down there when the carpark offers fantastic views, is beyond me.

And even if she was in the car, still doesn't explain why car bits washed up but she didn't, or personal items such as a shoe.

I heard back from the Coroners Court... they won't give me a direct email for the assisting counsel but offered to forward an email on so I sent this..( let's see what transpires!!!):

Thanks Anna.

Firstly, I would like to ask whether I can please obtain a copy of the damaged concrete retaining wall that was shown during day two of the inquest? It may possibly have been during the Marine Safety Officer testimony.

Also, in the attached article it states that a bouncer, that worked at the Racquet Club I think, confessed to Julie’s murder. I think that the Racquet Club is in the direction that she was driving that night. Also, just before Julie went missing she wrote a letter to {redacted} (now living in Ballarat) and in the letter she said that she was seeing a guy who had gotten in trouble for steroids. {Redacted} has shown this letter to the police but there may be a connection and I was wondering if this has been explored?

Finally, a third party has mentioned to me that there were menthol cigarette butts in the car ashtray when it was recovered. I don’t recall butts in the ashtray being mentioned during the inquest. Is Mr. Tiller able to please confirm that there were menthol cigarette butts or not?

Thank you, Anna, please reach out if you or Mr. Tiller need any further details regarding any of the above.

The car bonnet didnt wash up either ... I think the handbrake was off .. bigwood69 do you recall?

Also, the marine expert said that since 2004 13 people have gone missing off the coast who haven't been found. If she drowned and sank and then the undercurrent sucked her out to sea, then she could have been eaten... apparently bodies don't start to float until they are decomposing.

This wall shot from the southern side 13 years ago.

Looks like it might have been rendered.

It's interesting that the sides of that road are more like gutter height or one brick high, they go up a bit higher in one spot but most of it isn't high enough to damage the mid sides.

The below shot of the boardwalk sometime after 1952, before the boardwalk was removed (commencing in 1979), shows that there was no wall at all in at least that last section of the access road on the Northern side of the old Beach Pavillion, where you can clearly see the grass and sand meeting up with the service road/path down to the beach.

Good afternoon,

The court does not distribute such material. The brief of evidence, including any exhibits shown or otherwise highlighted during the inquest, are for the coronial process and are only provided to counsel appearing at the inquest hearing.

I will ensure this email, with attachments, is provided to Mr Tiller for review.

Thank you for your correspondence, I trust that the above encompasses your request, but please reach out if there’s anything further.

The other approach may be to send an email to someone like Bret Christian or Phil Hickey and see if they can do it via media links.

Anybody know if the handbrake was on?
that would be difficult to know without the detectives first lost property inspection list or a photo of the interior, maybe the handbrake was disengaged for the efforts to drag it out was more easy instead of locked wheels, and of course if the car was not on its bonnet whilst dragged out, that's my thoughts hope it helps

The handbrake position might be important if for example it was on, would indicate someone drove it down rather than pushed it and let it go from the top.

I'm not sure if over 18 years, 13 bodies failing to be found is a lot given the WA coast is pretty rugged, sharky and in just one year, 2018 iirc, 17 people drowned. Granted though, while Cottesloe looks quite a calm and sheltered little swimming spot, conditions on the night were wild.

Robyn Santen's body was never found, keys left in her car with her bag and purse. 2015.

Still stuck on how some of the Parmelia Hotel uniform and stockings were left in a kebab shop which looks like foul play, to me anyway, if it's looking slightly more possible Julie was in the car when it went in to the sea.

Just wanted to send my appreciation to and team that attended - I’d be super frustrated (disclaimer have not read all theposts)

I think we need to consider how intoxicated she was. She was drinking champagne for an hour and a half with 3 glasses one after the other (they were lined up on the bar) when she walked in to the function. The strength of champagne is usually around 12%. There are 6 glasses in a bottle so right there’s half a bottle already. It’s surprising she made it out of the car park. Also this is someone that didn’t drink often and who friends said alcohol affected easily. Perhaps the recent break up caused her to drink excessively… especially if she broke up with the married guy because he was at the function.
