It’s nothing less than glorified animal cruelty.

Of the last 10 or 20 jumps races i've seen there would have been more than 30 deaths with the horses snapping their necks or shattering their legs.
I can't believe it's allowed to carry on, there's no way it should be legal.

It's an absolute disgrace.

Its much better they just dog them cos theyre not fast enough for the flat.

In the good old days you may have had a case but those new jumps are barely an obstacle.Interesting stats youve made up there anyway.

The problem is they aren't taught to jump properly because there's barely anything to jump over anymore, it's this soft brush thing and they try to run through them

Mate that would have to be the worst post of all time.My highlight of the racing year is the Bool Carnival. My missus use to ride equestrain and as she has told me a number of times horses jump because they want to it is natural. If you don't belive me watch the horse who lost his jockey at Oakbank today he kept on jumping. As Seth sez the jumps now days are much safer.

Exactly. Makes me laugh when idiots speak out against it. Why don't they campaign against the fact that so many horses are just left to be dog food by their idiot owners. That is something that upsets me. That's a more worthy cause.

More crap from starz.

Doesn't even warrant a reply. If you are going to use statistics, at least make them believeable.

Easily 1 per race of the last 20 races I‘ve seen in the last month or two.
Funny how you’re all trying to divert the topic.

Last week at Morphettiville there were only 2 jumps races just small fields and only half of them were able to complete it, carnage everywhere it really was a farce. They eventually put cones out and made them run around the jumps for the second lap of one race, too many jockeys & horses laying on the track.

First race today, 3 falls in a field of just 8. That’s what makes it even worse these were only small fields.
Many many falls during the Cheltenham festival in the UK.
I had a bet on one of their big races out of boredom laid 2.50 fav and just 20 seconds into the race it shattered its foreleg on the first hurdle. Made a few hundred but would give it back in a second if it meant the horse wasn’t killed, felt awful.

It’s banned in a few states here and a lot of countries around the world but it’s not enough, it should be outlawed altogether.
The racing industry tries to cover it up, there could be three horses laying on the ground, one with a broken neck, one laying on the ground with broken legs and one hobbling around with its foreleg at right angles and all they’ll talk about is the jockeys involved, won’t mention horses if they're in trouble and the cameras are always very quick to pan away and avoid it, very hush hush.

It’s the morons who support it that are the core of the problem.

Just a sample of the sad reality of jumps racing.

Like i said, glorified animal cruelty.

Of all the newspaper columns Ive read, TV & radio interviews & then people I spoke to on track yesterday, this is the worst description of one J Houlahan that I can find!!

I think most here will find this laced with irony.

Don't know who Jim is, don't really care.
The point is valid, without the morons who support it there would be no jumps racing. I think that would be a welcome relief because it really is a farcical disgrace of a sport.
If you do support it, it probably says more about you as a person than anything, there's your irony mug.

Starz you are a dope of the highest order. You cant have been watching too many jumps races if you think your statistic is even remotely accurate. Nice video though, pity its not of jumps racing in this country. And the 370 stat they put on it? Do you have any idea how many thousands of jumps races are run in the UK each year? Fair dinkum buddy, get a clue.

lol, this coming from a troll who said a couple of weeks ago Haradasun is a hack who will serve D grade mares.

Sad fact those numbers are nowhere near realistic, there are far more deaths and serious injuries leading to death than the fraction we hear about, these ‘statistics’ are given by THE RACING INDUSTRY says it all. It’s reported only 1 in 13 starters fall, I’m 100% sure that’s nowhere near accurate.

Like I said I watched 7 jumps in the last two weeks three at Morphettville last week where there were at least 12 falls with 5 casualties and 3 races at Oakbank yesterday. The first race alone there were three nasty falls horses laying motionless in background, NOTHING MENTIONED just 'jockey is moving' then onto next race. This all in small fields of just 8-10.

The Cheltenham Festival they were falling like flies on the hurdles, it was normal for 16 to start and only 12-13 cross the line. Same thing, not mentioned, it's the dark side of racing swept under the rug.

Can anyone here honestly say they enjoy watching it and don’t cringe when a pack goes over a jump?

90% of the field is blind sighted going into the jump, they're ridden hard and exhausted already they're off balance with a 60kg jockey on their back.
The result is inevitable. It's Russian roulette.

There’s nothing more horrific and graphic than watching a beautiful animal like that break its neck or legs and lay there suffering in pain awaiting a bullet to the head.

Imagine seeing that in person or having kids at the track watch it live, not just kids but adults too.
That image would surely stay with you forever.

Youre an absolute dope. Keep trotting out fake stats, its one of the few things youre good at.

If you bothered to read what I really said it was regarding Haradasun as a listed winner dummy. Obviously things change significantly as a group 1 winner.

Yawn, 'serving D grade mares' was the call, you really know your stuff hey.
Can't unscramble the eggs now newbie.

Just for the dope in the room who cant read basic English. Keep on plugging away though champ, you might get one right eventually.

As it stands, Haradasun wouldnt be worth a pinch of ***** at stud. As a 3yo listed winner he would start off serving d-grade mares at about $2k per service. The $20m that was being bandied about was so obviously made up garbage its not funny.

Sure, I get nervous watching it and it upsets me when a horse is put down, heck when there is a fall I am more interested in the horses well-being, but what would happen to these horses if it were not for jumps racing? Are you as disgusted as I am about horses that don't cut it who are sold for dog meat and how they are treated? If not then you need to get your priorites in place.

This is where your complete ignorance of the game falls flat on the majority here. You show no respect to anyone on this board, let alone the likes of the great Jim Houlahan.

Have ever spent time talking to people like Eric Musgrove or John Wheeler?
Never bothered to get down to the 'Bool in May?
Ever been up at the crack of dawn to see these trainers work, care & love these types put into their horses?

Honestly I have tolerated & not bitten at your previous rubbish, but this one I really can't sit back & cop. I seriously doubt you get to the races more than once a season, & would never have had the guts to pour some of your own $$ into the industry apart from the punt. People who do put $$$ into the industry have far more respect for these so called 'morons'.

MUG = someone that creates self indulgent threads using a 'point' system that no one else cares about, or shows the slighest interest in.

So why would this person bother?
Don't really know, but it probably says more about you as a person than anything. Sound familiar?
Pot, Kettle, Black.

Any sports where animals are involved will always include dangers to the animals.
I don't think jumps is any worse than the races, or probably even the dogs.
There is nothing worse than watching a horse hurt itself, and the only thing i can think of is that it is put out of its misery quickly.

Christ who didn't feel like **** after the champion Mummify had to get put down.

That being said, its much better now for these animals than it was in the past, and it will get better as time goes on.

The only thing i hate is that 2yo horses and subjected to such tough races, its too young for a horse to be subject to that amount of pressure on its bones.

Despite the fact this dude seems to be a little off on his stats, the first few races at Oakbank yesterday were a disgrace. I personally cant stand seeing jockeys fall or horses fall, and it seems to be that it happens a lot more in jumps racing.

Whichever way you look at it, the D grade mares comment doesn’t reflect well on you or your judgement and knowledge.
The insults and your negativity illustrate your level of maturity, so very happy to ignore you until you grow up a bit.

Read the thread title, you’re drifting off-topic, if you want to start a thread about a rare case or two where a slow race horse was used as dog food go ahead.
Because people get cancer does that mean we shouldn't worry about murderers? That's about as relevant as what you're saying.

At least you’ve admitted you get nervous and upset when you watch it.

zzzzzz getting a little off topic here aren't you.
Not sure why or what you're babbling on about.
If you've actually got anything of substance to say or you want to tell us how great jumps racing is and you really get a kick out of watching that abysmal farce, let us know.
Yea this is a forum, some people actually give tips, i don't rate you at all so don't care one bit what a mug thinks of it.

How can i be a little off on my stats when i'm simply reporting what i've seen?
If i see 3 horses fall and 3 of them not get up, which isn't surprising when a tired 500kg animal spears head first into the ground at speed then that's what i'll report.
As for your observation on Oakbank, i agree.
