Jumps Racing - a disgrace

Youre a struggler starz, a real struggler. You've been found out with your ignorance and lies.

Sorry to tell you champ but the D-Grade mares comment is pretty much on the money. 3yo listed winners dont start off serving A-grade mares dopey. Just so you know, the best mares get served by the best sires. That means sires who were either stars on the track or have proved themselves in the breeding barn.

Read the thread title, you’re drifting off-topic, if you want to start a thread about a rare case or two where a slow race horse was used as dog food go ahead.

A rare case??? It happens all the time and the treatment and lack of respect shown to these poor animals is a disgrace. As someone said earlier, the care and respect that guys like Wheeler and Musgrove have for their horses is great.

dont agree completely with starz, but, i gave up betting on jumps/steeples 15 years ago after seeing a couple dive and get put down at sandown. this was very distressing as it was at the top of the straight almost in front of the main grandstand. i reckon jumps are unnecessary and are without doubt twice as dangerous as flats. have enormous respect for houlihans, constables, evans, leeks (trained a flat horse of mine years ago) etc however races like grand national, von doussa etc are specticals for the racegoers only.
love the flats but jumps need to be cut right back or discontinued.

You've only got to look at the Grand National last night, 40 started only 12 finished. Many killed.

A total disgrace.

Starz,
The Independent reports no equine fatalities although Graphic Approach has a suspected concussion. Also no jockey injuries.
So there were many falls but a lot of horses are also pulled up.

seth

Many killed.

you might have a point if you didn't resort to a blatent lie.

one horse only collapsed with heat stroke and recovered.

if your going to lie make it at least better than that attempt.

I didn’t look at the 'reported' horses killed because there aren't any truthful reports, it's all about image remember.

What we know is of the last 10 runnings of the Grand National there have been 32 "reported" deaths. Remember that's 'during' the race, you can't discard the casualty toll after the race where it really kicks in.

All we've heard are quite a few are in a bad way, 4 with serious leg injuries even third place getter bowed a tendon. A few others collapsed, sedated and concussed. It's not just the horses that are killed it's the serious injuries that occur.

The only true stat we know about because it can’t be hidden:

12 completed the race out of 40 starters.

Sad fact.

so sentence one admits to making up the many killed in last night's race but also says the reported numbers aren't truthful.

2nd sentence after just saying the reported number aren't truthful, goes on to use the reported numbers as "what we know" to be true.

so we have someone who is so mixed up in all his lies he contradict's himself out of the confusion.

if only you told the truth in the first place Starz.

No, I’ve also used and emphasised the word "reported" in the second sentence even putting it in inverted brackets again. The true number is much higher, what you hear is just the tip of the iceberg.

You only have to watch one of these races and you'll see most of the fallen barely get a mention, if any.
Why would they? easy to cover and it's definetely not in their best interests.

It’s about money and image.

It's not a great spectacle, the same ppl who love the GN would still go and watch lions v christians if they could.

This race won't last another 10 years. All the horse ppl I've spoken to don't like the race, so who's it actually for?

Wont last 10 years? Youre taking the p!ss right?
As for the all the horse people youve spoken to, well you cant have spoken to too many because National Hunt racing is just as big in the UK as Flat racing. An entire 6 months is devoted to it. In Ireland its more popular than the flat.

Can’t deny jumps racing has some risk factor associated to it... Hence as always in the GN a lot of jockeys pull em up when they think they can’t get decent prize money... No point running them into the ground over the long trip for naught.

The cruelest thing as far as I’m concerned about jumps racing is what it did to my account balance, that’s why I stick to punting on the flat.

So you work in the racing industry do you Starz?? The reported figures are correct. The fatality rates in jumps racing have decreased significantly since the introduction of the new modular hurdles.

It seems to me you are accusing Racing Victoria's Integrity Services of blatant lying. I'm sure they would be interested in these comments.
