Who at Saint Kilda would be in our best 22?

From WC 2024 I'd say McGovern, Barrass, Kelly, Yeo, Reid, Allan, Waterman.

That's 7, I can't name 7 St Kilda players that would get a run at Freo. Their list is horrible. RTB is still the GOAT.
Sorry, I didn't answer the question.

I'd absolutely looooooove Mitch Owens. Bit of a fan favourite, and rightly so.

Owens, King, N W-M, Hill, Henry, Steele, Marshall, Sinclair, Wilkie, Higgins, Wood and Macrea. Also think Darcy Wilson, Marcus Windhager and Mattaus Phillipou are all going to be good.

Not his fault we kicked 9 goals 14 and 5 OOTF or whatever it was.

One was a draw, the other a Matthew Scarlett toe poke away. Brilliant coach IMO and made our club relevant.
Other coaches have won multiple premierships each with 5+ goal margins. Being 'near enough' but never winning the whole thing does not make you the greatest of all time.

No it doesn't but it doesn't make him a spud coach. He gets criticised by posters all the time, more so than coaches who never get their club to top 4 yet alone the grand final.

No one is saying he is a spud coach, but he has obvious and significant flaws in his style that have prevented him from winning a premiership. The argument that it wasn't his fault that his teams missed so many easy shots at goal in the GFs is countered by the fact he has never really prioritised scoring.

He is a defence first and high pressure coach. Rewards effort. Set shots missed by players in the GF is clearly not his fault and Freo had enough opportunities.

Having Neale as sub was costly and having players look directly for Pav who was well covered in the gf was costly as for the people who were at the G on the day could clearly see other players open. Some lack of vision hurt. Is this his fault? Yes, but it's also on the players too.

Freo had a lot of C grade players playing in that team and almost won a premiership. I wonder if any other coach would have even made a grand final with that team.

just looking at that 2025 AFL fixture...

AFL dockers 2025 fixture.jpeg

Anyone here confident that we will make finals next season under our current coach?

I say unlikely.

would hurt if Freo loses their last 4 games again narrowly just like in 2024 and we finish 9th to 12th again. I can sadly see that happening.

I'm pretty confident The Dockers can make finals this year.

The list is absolutely primed and it is hard to argue it isn't the most talent we've ever had.

Do I think it will be a part of multiple years of finals and a flag assault? No. JLO is a dud.

He's a dud because you believe you believe he won't bring us multiple premierships

Hmmm yeah ok

If he doesn't make finals with this list he's gone.

Having said that if we have the same season as this year we'd sign him around August whilst sitting top four. We wouldn't backtrack on that decision if we dropped to 9th by losing our last four games. Too much money and all that stuff.

Does Chris Scott's contract expire at the end of 2025 or 2026?

Surely we'll be all over this Justin Longmire fella who just stepped down at Sydney right? Maybe he knows who John Longmuir is? Be great to get him as an assistant just to fu(k with the media.

He won a flag in his second year as coach, Paul Roos did all the ground work to build that team, Horse just had to not stuff it up.
He then got gifted the best Full Forward of the century and still couldn’t get the job done again.
He kept them regularly playing finals for another decade, with another two grand final appearances. Granted those two were awful losses, but we've only made one in our history, bad coaches don't make three grand finals.

I'm still behind Longmuir and think we'll be a contender from next year, but if it all goes pear-shaped we could do a lot worse than Horse.

Yeah but...Why hasnt Horse been sacked?
Hasnt won a cup in 12 years of trying!
Choker?
I ask myself why do do I even keep looking at this thread?
A board has the hardest job of all, to determine how to go forward?
We nuffies on BF know that its really really simple!
Win:Loss ratios!

This post didn’t age well 🤣

JL has close to the best list that we’ve ever had. There’s 3 players that he needs to get the best or better out of.
#1 is Amiss. Jye must get back to his 2023 accuracy. 36.28 is just not accurate enough for a player who mostly has set shots. I know he kicked some clutch goals (Syd. & ESS.) but he absolutely cost us momentum in a lot of games due to his misses.
#2 is Jackson. JL needs to find where Jackson can get 20 touches and 5 marks a game. Jackson having Treacy like improvement will be huge for where we finish on the table. He’s got to have greater influence on the outcome of games.
#3 is the Smokey and that’s NOD. He’s probably got the highest ceiling, or room for improvement than anyone else on the list. He’s fast, has a cannon left boot and can kick goals. To me he replaces Fyfe in the middle, but how JL uses him will be very interesting.
JL has everything else a list could want. AA players running around in both the midfield and defence, a maturing forward line that’s added one of the most dynamic players in the league.
I think that generally speaking, our on field tactics are pretty good. We’ve been right in a lot of games,we’ve just failed in moments and sometimes periods of games and that’s where the above players can make the difference.

This concept that we have the best list we’ve ever had is crazy talk IMO and heightens expectations.

2013-15 we had peak or near peak versions of Pavlich, Fyfe, Sandilands, Mundy, McPharlin, Hill, Ballantyne, Johnson, Walters, Mayne, Crowley… emerging Lachie Neale. Ibbotson, Duffield and Spurr playing out of their skin. We were elite.

2013 AA squad:

2014 AA squad:

Hayden Ballantyne, Nathan Fyfe, Aaron Sandilands

2015 AA squad:

Ryan Pearce Walker
Chappy Cox Clark
Sharp Young Noddy
Freddy Treacy Bolton
Jackson Amiss Switta

Darcy Serong Brayshaw

Johnson, Erasmus, Sturt, Draper
Sub: Wagner.

I don't think are top 5 players are as good as Pavlich, McPharlin, Sandilands, Mundy and Fyfe
Treacy, Pearce, Darcy, Brayshaw and Serong.

2013 team wins easily.

Next level was Ballantyne, Walters, Barlow, Johnson and Hill
Bolton, Cox, Amiss, Jackson and Clark.

2013 team wins easily

Still think we need 2 or 3 people to break out, for us to get to that level.

Such a shame the bottom handful from that 2013 team were so poor. 2013 is a polarised team, now we have a much more even spread.
