Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

Watch a few minutes of this if you want to know what it takes to win a big time finals in this league. Ferocious, unrelenting, no-holds-barred pressure.

Then ask yourself - will a Justin Longmuir coached team ever come out and play with this level of sustained aggression and intensity against an elite opponent in a game of this magnitude?

Five years of JL tells me the answer is a resounding no.

We wouldn’t get close to that side.

Frustrated, but still with JL.

Call me delusional but so is Hayden Young.

And Caleb Serong.

And Josh Treacy.

And Jye Amiss.

These boys signed long-term contracts to play under JL. Who is to say a change of coach doesn't lead one of these boys to pull a Bolton themselves?

Heartbreaking year, we played some incredible footy and deserved to make finals. Absolutely shat the bed, but the group is united and we will persist.

Someone said the comment 'we lose gameday on Thursday nights' - I think this is the big one for me.

Today was just typical too on game day - we go to sleep in games (10 minutes to start the 3rd quarter today was putrid), we lost our composure when the opposition turns up the heat (quarter 4 fumbles), yada yada yada.

Back to the SWOT analysis for JLo

They signed long term contracts to play for Fremantle, not to play under JL.

Do you think they’d up and leave if he got the sack? Be real.

Do you actually thinking I'm suggesting the players would stage some sort of walk out?

I'm pointing out that having those players signed doesn't mean shit if we panic and change for the sake of change.

We've got another year all-in with JL, it is what it is.

What's the point of all these great players signing up if it means we're stuck in mediocrity indefinitely?

You suggesting our focus shouldn't be to win games, but make players feel comfortable?

Resigning him at the start of the year was weak and conservative from all involved.

He got the safety net and wasn’t ruthless enough through the season.

Let’s not make the same mistake next year.

No, I'm suggesting these players who are elite footballers and directly involved in the day-to-day might have a better idea of how things are going behind the scenes than a bunch of hurt fans.

Whether its Longmuir, Graham or one of the other coaches how in the hell do you play Reidy in the forward line at the same time as Fyfe. The club needs to put out a 5 year offer ($7.5m) next week to C Scott, John Longmire or Luke Beveridge if they are half serious.
Yeah let cox take over sydney and give longmire anything he wants $$$

2021 we played St kilda at Hobart with finals on the line on the last day and got flogged by 10 goals in a gutless performance

Today was just as gutless.

I think the club stay the course for next year but gee I reckon JL would have preferred Carlton winning today now.

A horrible finish to a season and you can't whinge about injuries as every club goes through it.
I remember that game. Saints won 17.5.107 to freos 6.13.49.

The actual game that cost us a finals spot in 2021 was when essendon beat us in round 9. 10.8.68 to 8.13.61.

had we beaten essendon in round 9, then we essentially took essendons 8th spot.

The loss tonight isn't on JLo. I was at the game and I thought the players didn't play with any belief. That might be too simplistic, but the fumbles and the slipping was due to nerves getting the best of them.

The on-field leaders should really help to calm the team when the pressure is ramped up, but players like JOM are the main culprits.

It's so wild that we lost. What a missed opportunity, what loserish behaviour from the club.

They were fumbly, undecided and slow to react. It's amazing how much the coach can rub off on his players.

Maybe they are just sick of being invested with no return and don't want to gobble up the crap that the club profers year in and year out. Why stay a member if it does nothing for you, or worse, causes angst. More to life than footy.
there has been very few good highlights in our 30 full seasons.

From 1995 until 2024 how many years out of 30 we made finals? 8 year out of 30.

2003, 2006, 2010, 2012,
2013, 2014, 2015, 2022.

those 8 years. And only once has freo either had a sustained finals run or made back to back finals. That was 2012-15 under ross lyon.

Think about that. In a 30 year stretch, we only have 2012-5 to look back on. Its not the lack of flags that hurt its the lack of periods of sustained or back to back finals.

I wished we made finals in 2005 and 2021. that means we would of made back to back finals in 2005-6 and 2021-22. That would of been 3 stand out eras of back to back finals.

Again... its not the lack of flags that hurt, its the lack of back to back finals.

How can you stay loyal when over a 30 year period, the club only makes finals only 8 times in that period. If we won a flag in that period, there would be some rusted on fans that would cling on to that.

I would love the dockers to win a flag, But I can not see it happen under this current situation.

Don’t forget the $$$$$ they get to sign and the long term security.

Wish we had a few more mongrels in the team to bring the biff.

I honestly think we need to work on being a team that brings the physical pressure and outs gear into the opposition.

Don’t think a single port player needs an ice bath after that game
