I really want it to work out for JLo this year but if the worst case scenario happens and we don't make finals, then I would have a good hard look at Luke Beveridge to be our future coach, he's out of contract at the right time to make a smooth transition (a bit like when we poached Ross from stk).

I don't want the club to give JLo a contract extension until we make the finals, if we make finals then give him a 2 year extension.

We will make the finals, we are too good not to make the finals. He should go with anything less than 15 wins. That is the level required.

If we are serious about contending for a premiership in the next 5 years then JLo's pass mark for 2025 cannot be incremental improvement ie simply making finals.
IMO a minimum of Top 6 when all is said and done should be our trigger. That means either a Top 4 HnA finish or a 5-8 HnA finish with a finals win.
JLo's in his 6th year with a fabulous list. No excuses now.
Of course the devil is in the detail and only a dummy would fix the bar black and white. But if the minimum is not set high then we cannot claim to seriously aim for Number 1.

No thanks to Beverage. He's a confusing coach and does the strangest changes. I don't rate him at all anymore and I'd prefer to look elsewhere.

So if we finish 7th you chop the coach, and who is it who is incoming?

His contract is likely extended prior to finals if we are having a good showing.

In the finish 7th scenario I would hope the club only extends if there is no better prospect available. Or if the club has faith in someone like Rawlings or Graham.

I agree with you that there has to be a better option. If the club admin are doing their job they have already gamed out that scenario and have a list.

I don't know that it is in the club's best interests to extend pre-finals. Would we be worried that JLo might be poached?

The big question for me would be around the capacity for a rookie coach to get us playing at a better level. Our history has been all about rookie coaches, plus Lyon. And there is definitely a chasm between those two groupings.

As it happens, there are likely to be some experienced coaches theoretically available. Longmire, Simpson and a couple still in senior positions who may be looking for another gig.

Both options above make me nervous.

I would actually prefer Hinkely to Beveridge.
The year he won the premiership was the biggest fluke run of all time.

I know it’s the off season and we are all bored but some of the takes going into the 25 season about game plan , transition from front to back. And people just seriously not happy about missing finals . I get it maybe ?
But some of the comments regards longmuir and the coaching staff are so far off the mark.
My question to posters is when do the players bare responsibility for the losses
The hardest thing to learn as a player is when under pressure is to be predictable ( not for a game a whole season ).
It’s a fast game built on split second decisions all your team mates ask is you are predictable
If all of sudden you go defensive sideways with a 20 metre chip instead of attacking long , or trying to take on the opposition and get caught everyone forward of the ball is instantly out of position.
The last 2 years freo are now attacking harder than I’ve seen for years. But if it doesn’t come off the backline and midfield is exposed.
What I liked this year as the season wore on was the fact more and more players chose attack first
If it didn’t come off big deal
But there were a lot of times it did.
I don’t care about the age profile who we should have kept and who we didn’t.

But the one thing we have only had once is total buy in by the club ( players 42 )
To put in the work and believe.
It’s not easy to achieve
But if you have ever been involved in a successful culture in and around football success always follows.

So to the armchair guys taking cheap shots by making a comment and then finishing with a sign off
“But longmuir or the selection committee won’t do what I say “
It’s a cheap shot
And reflects on you
And not them
