Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

Anyone know what the plan was that the players deviated from? 🤔

Anyone have the text? Dale147 maybe? Thanks :)

O'Driscoll's interview after the game said it all. He said they were playing on and moving the ball too quickly. If that's the instructions they are supposed to follow, then we have no hope. JL wants them to protect the lead rather than trying to extend the lead.

He's instructing the team to go slow and kick the ball to an area where we are less likely to score, but if we don't score then it is OK because the opposition are less likely to score. JL said this himself in his post match presser. It's a ridiculously defensive and risk averse mindset.

How many times have we heard JL bemoan his players not following his plan? Like a broken record every time we lose a close game. If he had a clue, he might be able to see the problem starts with himself.

He clearly and stubbornly thinks his useless gameplan is actually OK. There is not going to be a change coming to the way we play until he gets sacked.

On Sen today Champion data guy. There is a team that has only scored one goal in total in the last 10 minutes of the final quarter of the last five games. Now that's a stat. Guess which team it is.
Been saying it for a while now. We play to not lose rather than trying to win and it's not working.

I was yelling "Attack! Go forward and attack dammit." Ryan just stood there for 30 seconds and then bombed the ball forward for an easy Sydney mark. We had players out in the middle, we had overlap run, we had a short option. All was ignored for the long bomb.

Voss has copped it on here but shit at least he attacks. He takes responsibility for the shot rather than trying to pass off. Yeah he made mistakes but he hasn't played a lot of games yet. Him and Treacy could be absolutely weapons with their size and aggression.

I was at footy park when we kicked 1 goal 7 behinds, the lone goal was in the 3rd quarter.

At the game with 3 or 4 crows friends, **** it was ugly.
I was there too. That was a cold and wet Saturday night.

One behind by half time.

1.7.13 at the end of the game. Ryan Murphy kicked out only goal and was dropped. LoL

I can believe we were that bad. If we had 7 or 8 scoring shots the whole night, you would hope at least 3 or 4 goals in a 15 to 20 goal loss

Funny that end of the next season dockers made finals in 2010.

Yeah I feel pretty strongly we would have made finals in 2020 if Ross was kept on. Big losses like that are inevitable when you're playing first year players and your senior players are injured.

From memory, Pavlich, Sandilands and a few others were out.

I think we were a bit like Carlton, a really good top 5 to 8 players, but then dropped off quickly.

And a fair amount of those blokes in that game played in the 2013 AFL Grand final
A lot of those blokes were in their first/second season at that point too, Clarke, Suban, De Boer, Ballantyne, Hill and Broughton if I'm correct were all in their debut seasons.

One example might of been sharp bombing it to the top of square where swans rebounded instead of more towards boundary line

Hoyne is great. His other stat that we have only won one game under 12 points in the last 2 years was very telling. We are also the fourth worst team at defending a score when we lose clearance. That is on our defenders, they struggle in one on one contests - see Cox for an example.

This has been an issue for 2 years under JLo and he hasn't been able to fix it.

I'm starting to come around to sending Young back to defence since the guys we have there right now aren't at the level.

Voss was kicking terrible all day. His point blank goal only missed the post by 1/2 a metre too. When he was in such bad form, it was a crazy move to try and hit a target on the 45 degree kick on the 50 when the risk was so great if he shanked it. No surprise that he did and it ended up in a Sydney goal.

Could we look at him maybe adopting the Sam Draper goal kicking routine?

“In fact, across the last five home and away games, Fremantle has scored just seven points in the time on period of final terms while conceding a staggering 76.”
Really though it’s just the Geelong game. Take that out and it’s 7-31.

Which is still dogshit but pretty much equal to an average of 1 goal to 0 in the last 10 minutes. Which I think is a lot more reflective of the way these games have gone.

Yep, was just checking that out, and whether it's 7 minutes of playing time which doesn't include all the running around to get to positions for throw ins and stoppages - or just a flat 7 minutes (where the stats don't really match up).

Most of it would be the Geelong game in Rd 1. Sydney kicked the last 2 goals in a 3 pt loss, and last season - Port kicked the last two goals in a 20pt loss. GWS kicked 2 out of the last 3 in a 9 pt loss. Geelong kicked the last in an 11 pt loss.

If they including the Essendon game, which I don't think they have, their surge came between the 15-20minute mark of the last quarter and the game finished after 30min with Amiss scoring a goal in the 30th minute and Durham's winning point in the 31st minute.

Edit: I got confused by the quote. The stat was actually related to time on rather than the what I looked up which was for scores in the last 7 minutes - Using just the time on figures - it skews it more to the goals Geelong scored (6:1) in the Rd 1 game.

I think a change of coach is required. There is enough evidence after 5 plus years to say he can't deal quickly enough with basic issues.

Slow starts have been a big problem for a long time. We had a good first quarter on the weekend - keep them happening.

Poor finishing is also a problem over the past 6 games. Do something about it.

There is no way I would ever hope my team losses a game to add to the evidence that JLo is not the person to take this team forward. Our catastrophic finish to 2024 and disastrous beginning to 2025 are all the evidence that is required.
As I said last 2 seasons we always had bad 1st quarters.

I think last season we only won 1 or 2 of those 1st quarters.

I don't mind trailing by 1 point or even a goal at quarter time. But psychologically it's bad playing catch up.

I don't disagree, I'm just baffled how we got here.

I haven't gone through the stats, but I wonder how many of our past coaches took us to a winning final with a very inexperienced team in their 3rd year following a mass exodus.

oh, and kept us off the back page for all the wrong reasons (boy - that was fun)

...and didn't lose 10,000 members.

I'd guess not many.

The truth is, we're bloody lucky JL came in when he did and cleaned up the mess we were in. Would we like to win every game? Of course. There are 18 clubs all trying to do that. But, if we can't see what he's achieved in his short time we're basically just death riding him to failure, which is nonsense to me. I just can't understand it.

It's like having a bloody good lamb roast in front of you but complaining the gravy is too hot and drumming up support to go get Maccas.
Your post aged like bad milk
