I will say failure to make finals this year which is very likely now means JL has lost his credits from last year and will start next year under pressure from the get go.

Forget about him being sacked this year. The board won't do it they have a long term vision. And don't seem like the board that will be irrational over a poor month of footy.

The board has had a few versions of a vision in the last decade
2016: We have no reason not to win a flag by 2020
2021: Several prelims and a flag by 2025
And at the start of this year:
"We think we’re really well positioned for an extended period of contention,” Garlick told reporters at the club’s season launch on Wednesday.
“We’d be certainly very disappointed if we didn’t get to the level that we achieved last year (as a minimum), and hopefully beyond".

If Freo was a publicly listed company on the Stock Exchange, the board would be hauled before ASIC for misleading and deceptive conduct. At the very least there would be a shareholder vote of no confidence and the board would resign.

Yeah we need contested ball winners in the centre as we are too small as is. Erasmus is a two way running midfielder so he would be perfect to replace Brashaw at the bounce. In the Peel game there was a moment where Ras won the clearance and sprinted out of the center getting the I50 which was very impressive.

JL knows his stuff, but I’ve said this before, he is over coaching the group. He has to let go of the reigns a bit & let them play, I feel he is micro managing our ball movement & the players don’t have scope to play their natural game.

The way we’re playing this year is like the Blues under Bolton, he over coached in a big way & as soon as he was sacked, Carlton went back to basics & improved no end. JL has to adjust now, we have a better list than them under Bolton & if there’s no improvement JL will go the same way.

As a coach when your team is struggling it’s difficult to pull back, but it’s exactly what’s needed here as we look tired & slow & we’re not that bad.

If we had Curnow and Mckay guarantee we would look a lot better also.

I was hoping Freo at least get a 2-3 years in a row of finals before he got sacked.

I had a good feeling Justin Longmuir was not gonna deliver a maiden men's flag.

But I hoped for finals in 2023 and 2024.

It's also the lack of fight that worries me this season too.

You look at some of those wins Freo had in 2022.

We were trailing at half-time by a goal or 2. We then have an amazing 3rd quarter and get the lead by 3 quarter time.

We then either hold on to the lead or win easily.

2 games stood out in 2022.

Go look at the demons game at the MCG. Kicked like 2.7.19 at half time and ended up kicking 14.10.94.

The other standout win was the Elim final last season. Down by 40 points and we still won.

When the TV cuts to RTB and the good coaches in the box after an error they're on the phone, they're banging the desk, they're ripping into assistant coaches. They're passionate and proactive. When the TV cuts to JLo in the box after a mistake he looks baffled and about to cry.

I reckon the strongest list we've ever had was around 2005 to 2007 and we never really had a crack at a flag because Cuddles Connolly wasn't up to it. It would be a shame for players to retire without playing in big finals because we stuck with JLo for too long because he's a nice guy. If we're not top 10 and in the mix for finals after 15 games he has to go this year IMO.

Agreed.... I have said many times. We under achieved from 2003-7. Should of made finals every year from 2003-7.

Connolly was a horrible coach and couldn't develop youth well

We all know Connolly underachieved with a good list. That’s irrelevant now.

The fact is our team is playing worst than a Connolly era Dockers. We look uncompetitive like the Drum years.

We are getting spanked and haven’t played Brisbane@Gabba, Collingwood@MCG, Dees yet etc etc

Let me just add there were a few years under Connolly we just missed out on the 8 after being in it for like 90% of the season…worlds apart atm.

We look like we could get the spoon at this point.
 
Do We know any good coaches who played ruck?

I can not remember any...This was my concern from the day We appointed JL...

Sadly all that means is that he’s a good assistant coach. Measured, patient, calm in directing his line while the senior coach takes all the responsibility for directing the team and getting them motivated. He just does not project confidence and leadership as a senior coach. Did not to begin with and has not grown into the role.

So what’s changed from last year? Lost Mundy, Lobb, Logue, Acres, Carr.
Officially Pearce is the Captain.
Gameplan? At stages of the year we played and looked fast. Now we look
cooked.
I didn’t like the idea of JOM in the leadership group after 5 minutes.
Didn’t play Hughes, Wilson, even Henry who isn’t AFL ready still.
Played more kids, only one debut this year and he is the sub.
This year maybe over for finals, but we can use it to springboard into
something formidable next year.

The answer is in there, gameplan wasn’t working, nothing to lose so play fast ball.
Our structured game is so predictable.
How many times do we see the same play from an opposition point kicked?
Don’t get me started on Ryan, Wilson, two guys that make Dawson look like a
Genius.
 
This season to me has many similarities to other teams where coach has lost the players. The coach is basically playing it “safe” in the hopes of not getting blown away, pulling in the occasional win and trying to keep his job for as long as he can while the players are just treading water waiting for the coach to get the tap on the shoulder to see where their future lays..

Not looking good for JLo. But its not as simple as sacking him. Who do you actually appoint. McCrae at the time was just an assistant and perhaps even a lower profile one at that.

Freo are coach killers so we're not an attractive place to coach. Whomever is a punt.
