If we do go for a rookie coach, I don't mind the idea of a mentoring position being appointed.
Also depends on results, Bombers miss finals and Woosha is out? Could be available.
Voss is an interesting candidate, could have been an assistant at WC, which suggests he is more
than capable, and has experience, something that must be considered in this state given the nature of
the beast.
You would think he would kill for the job, so the process should be interesting.

Someone like Mark Williams could be a very good foil for someone like JLo.

Haha, this stuff makes me laugh. If the environment was so toxic why was he there for sll 8 of Lyon's years? Sounds like typical office bitching to me.

I challenge you to go to any large organisation and find one where all the staff like the boss. You can't please everyone and if you do, yiu're not doing your job.
Yeah you might be right. I'm just passing on what was said to my boss. I'm not going to make assumptions or guess as to why he stayed etc.

There is no value add in throwing reported friend of a friend who stood at the FFC water cooler and overheard a couple of 55 year old admin staff bitching about Ross Lyon quotes. There is enough of that crap coming from the likes of Brad Hardie and Crumpets.

Ross Lyon did more good than any previous coach for this club but after 8-years the coaching structures and Conditioning needs a serious refresh. There are plenty of current and ex Freo players (incl. ex St Kilda and ex Sydney where he was assistant) that only have good things to say about Ross and will be disappointed but they will move on and get over it (apart from Paul Roos perhaps). There will also be plenty of players and coaching staff that have been delisted (moved on) or not played as much (or given as much say) as they would have liked who don’t like Ross at all.

The decision has been made and my opinion is that it is the right decision. They now need to get the appointment of a new coach, CEO and coaching supports etc correct - vitally important.

We will likely lose BHill and Langdon but if you look at Port Adelaide we should look closely at their Trade/Draft period as a blueprint.

Instead of BHill/Langdon they lost Wingard/Polec. They added Scott Lycett and Ryan Burton and managed to snare Rozee (Pick 5), Butters (Pick 12), Duursma (Pick 18). To me they nailed that draft. Some short term pain indeed but managed 11 wins in 2019. One more win and they finish 7th.

We should aim to bring in a couple of good new players (Narkle, Bolton, Redman all out of contract and mentioned in dispatches and then a range of second tier players with only a year left on their contracts - ie Fisher, Starcevich, Acres etc.). Then add in Pick 5/6, 6/7 and a bid match for Liam Henry at around 13-15 and I’ll be more than upbeat.

Barker was at Saints from 2007 to 2008. So far, we have one (heresay) example from over 11 years ago. I'd like to hear from someone directly, and perhaps this decade.

That, and also that there isn't any remote chance that Finey hasn't got a clue what he's talking about.

You gotta kick goals to win
No you dont, you can win 1-0 every game.

Regardless, you also need to stop goals to win. Both are importnat in equal measure, if anything, stopping goals is more important when you look at the history of successful teams and where they rank in offense vs defense

We already know defense....Ross taught us everything he knew. 1-0 sounds like Ross mentality. We have to move on. We have no logical reason to be conservative. We need to learn how to attack and kick goals now and lots of them. Good attacking teams kick 100+ points. The last month that the Bulldogs pulled off is more what I'm after. I'm pretty sure footy boils down to if you kick lots of goals you build scoreboard pressure...if you kick more goals than the other team they let you have 4points...same on GF day too I believe, except they give you a cup.

Agree to disagree. The best teams both kick goals and keep teams to low scores. Its a very limited view to say "we need to a coach that knows how to score"

We need a coach who knows how to win. The number of goals we kick is secondary
