Really? I could've sworn we turned a profit and won 9 games this season: Even beating 2 top 4 teams.

Is this the current feeling everyone has about our club or just standard WA fishbowl hysteria that for some reason everyone is buying into (or in some cases around here: Actively contributing to)?

But our membership numbers dropped. And I wouldn't necessarily expect them to jump next season.

Our two most important signings this off-season will be our new coach and CEO. Then who we trade/trade for.

I wouldn't say we are crisis but we have a lot of decisions to get right this offseason.

Woosha has carved a niche in stabising a club in crisis - WCE drugs and Essendon drugs/doping.

There's no doubt our club is on the edge of a crisis.

Injecting Woosh for some stabilisation in a head of coaching role would be a very strategic move IMO.
Good point , I had forgotten about that. Just don't rate him as a game day coach at tomes. Mentor might be good. Very insightful post

He coached them before and during the Run Ben Run Rampage. He oversaw it, and did his best ”I saw nothing “ report on the situation.

Memberships numbers can no longer be trusted due to the changes in what is classified as a membership. These can be tinkered to by clubs to paint a picture with the AFL all aboard for misleading the public.

Our membership dropping is probably due to the new stadium now being in the 2nd year and people can get walk up games for the first time ever. The honeymoon period for the stadium also being over.

Average home game attendance 2018 - 41,764
Average home game attendance 2019 - 40,896

Big deal, still more people than any other year on record. WA media just paint what ever suits their agenda and we all know what that is at the moment.

Probably the fairest stat for crowds is 'home crowd vs interstate club'. Takes out the Vic v Vic club games pumping up their numbers. Also takes out our home Derby aswell.

We're 6th in the league. Imagine if we hadn't fallen off a cliff this season.

Edge of crisis........If we recruit the wrong coach and CEO, shit could go bead real quick.

If you look at the hierarchy of our club, we have a relatively inexperienced senior management group in place at the moment. Assuming we go with Jlo, we also have an inexperienced coach.

Who in senior management has experience in crisis? No one.

We are potentiality setting ourselves up to fail by being too green.

Woosh would be a nice piece of insurance should storm clouds approach.

Attendance figures can be impacted by the teams we play. When I was watching the Carlton game on TV it looked like most of the outer wing was Carlton supporters. So it might be more walk-ups or it might be be opposition supporters. I think Freo are smart enough to know if we have to be concerned about membership, especially when WC have increased theirs by 20000 in one year. While we seemingly got none of the expanding market and best case scenario, have temporarily even lost some.

Gee the Hawthorn one is interesting. Is their membership cost $5. Bit of fiddling going on .

dunno 88mph, you're only inexperienced till you're experienced.
I understand you have close links to Sth Freo, but Suma & Woosh have done a lot of damage to Brand Freo, so this is where the animosity lies.
I'm hearing Peter Mann, Peter Bell, O'reilly, maybe Ben Allan are the controllers now that Rosich & lyon have gone.
Who knows where it will lead, but hopefully they have the club's best interest at heart

Yeah that's also true. He said he was clueless about what was going on. Was naive about young people got up to. Iirc

Which is a pile of crap because as a pharmacist he would know how prevalent drug use was, selling needles, prescription drugs and, back then, over the counter cold and flu medicines.

Their home games in Tassie with a capacity of 25-30k is skewing the numbers a bit.

Don’t think those are counted. Pretty sure it’s just the GWS, WCE and GC games. Pretty damn good numbers of you ask me.

I actually don’t know a single person that is a member of a club here in Melbourne, it’s so easy to get to any game you want I’m honestly not sure why you would bother. The numbers to me are staggering.

Yeah maybe, Most people thought WC in general, not only Worsfold specifically, turned a blind eye because they were in premiership contention. Interesting one.

That's why membership numbers don't matter. The 20K extra WC memberships are probably $50 zero game, wait list memberships with a free hat and a chance to get a ticket in the future.

With our market in WA, you'd have to have a complete business trainwreck to not make FFC be able to turn a profit. We could recruit Eddie Murphy from trading places as our new CEO and not only would he do well, but Winthorpe would win another dollar.

Pretty sure the club doc was also over prescribing prednisone for “asthma” which was shared around and taken like candy

How does that not matter? from 70000 to 90000 in one year of people paying to get on a waiting list.

Jeez. If it was done knowingly by the Doctor, he should have been deregistered. I do sometimes wonder if these sports Doctors would do the same things in the community, as they do in a sports club.

Because 1 membership is not the same as another anymore so the numbers mean nothing. You could lose 1000 x 1 game members and sign up 500 x 11 game members and look worse going off the AFL figures.

The wait list was probably the same the year before but the AFL didn't call them members till this year. Gil has definitely got a membership KPI.

We have the same option available, to become a non attending member, yet our overall membership has declined. Either way you look at it WC have given us a creaming.

They have given everybody a creaming. Revenue wise and profits. That will never change due to the population distribution and first mover advantage compared with other clubs around Australia. That is unless a 3rd team comes into WA that is targeted at their supporter base and could actually move some numbers.

Don't hold out on ever being infront of them for members, revenue or profits. I'm just glad we're slowly moving into the Big boys club for profits across the league and that will help us on the field.
