I reckon a guy we should have a look at to help JL was an assistant today. Another JL. Justin Leppitsch.

I thought JL's game plan that he was trying to build, was based on run and fast forward ball movement.
In 2022, I started to have some faith that it was going to pay dividends (NB: even though I generally prefer strong contested footballers versus the run/possession game).

But now I am floundering to see what JL's game plan is.
Early this season I excused our losses to some small injury concerns that interrupted our run and carry type players.
By the end of round 6, after a disappointing start to 2023, there was a fair bit of external noise. We appeared to then respond well and looked like we were trying to get back our 2022 style against Brisbane in R7. Even though we got well beaten, we showed promise.
On the back of that game, we then won 4 games in a row and I thought we might be back on track.

So where to now ... 2023 is done and dusted for us and I'm quite simply tired of seeing us give up easy goals on turnover which only further leads us to going back in our shells and showing less of the 2022 running game plan.
The AFL tracker stats which correlated well to our success in 2022, now also correlates with poor running and results in 2023.
I personally have never felt less hopeful about Freo's direction than I currently do (and I was quite happy to be a member in 2001 watching us try each week).

People keep saying he needs good assistants. It's true. But it ignores that these good assistants won't coach under Longmuir. They would consider themselves better coaches than Longmuir and won't lower themselves. He's a minnow coach, he's not going to get anything other than minnow assistants. If they then rise above that status, they will leave for a better job elsewhere.

The only way to fix the problem is get a senior coach who can get it done without relying on assistants, or a master coach like Hardwick who has the pull to bring good assistants with him.

Can’t miss out on the opportunity of a master coach. Scott or Hardwick.
THIS!!!! we have never in our 28 year history been ruthless and gone after a coach, we have always waited for everyones shit to fall off their plates and we just scoop up the duds from there. And dont give me but Lyon... hes a shit coach.

I agree that we do something but disagree with Lyon. Early days was great for us.

Only way is a succession plan, and let’s be honest once JLo’s contract is up
Is he going to get another?
It’s like M Harvey all over again, great assistant, but is not capable of even
numerous final appearances.
History has proven you need to be top 4 from WA to even think about a
Premiership.
If we are serious we will see changes, a harder edge on and off the field.

Do we need a seperate thread for assistant coaches cause I see this discussion creeping into every thread lol. We have the following assistant coaching options:

1. Don Pyke: Has a very impressive coaching record and best of all has lived and played in WA. He was an assistant at the Eagles between 2013-2015 as a "strategy, stoppages, and structure coached". He coached Adelaide to a gf and is currenty at the Swans. We will need to compete with the Eagles for his position.

2. Justin leppitsch: Has contributed to the success of Collingwood's midfield as a strategy/forward coach but will be the no.1 hunted coach if they win a gf this year.

3. Adam Yze: Has experience as a backline and specialist goal-kicking and development coach at Hawthorn. He is currently at the Dees as a midfielder coach. Would be a good option but not at the top of the list.

If anyone had any other suggestions I can do a small writeup about them?

All of the above, plus Dean Cox.
We need an outside point of view.
But as silly as it sounds we need more of a campaigner type and one who demands a physical game.

Sad thing is, I'm a member, been a member for 28 long fruitless years. Put $'s in year after year, Bell & Longmuir have taken mega $'s out and are still there.
We need new blood, not old Freo people that have been unsuccessful in the past, and are being unsuccessful now.
Bottom 4 is a bad result considering the list, even though they butchered it at trade time last year.
So very Dockery

Didn’t think 46 points was a bad result today given our form and some outs.

I stand by what I said in May and what I repeated in June. We’ve got to look like a top eight side and on the right track more than we don’t. If we do and miss the finals due to a poor start to the season I’m willing to accept that and give him a chance next year.

At this stage we’re zero chance of finals and are well short of looking like a top eight side. I don’t really see the benefit of sacking him right now tbh but if we don’t sack him at the end of the season we’re ****ing soft. This isn’t the worst midfield in the competition and isn’t a bottom four list except we actually are atm despite the names on the park making that look borderline impossible prior to the season starting.

if Hardwick walks to GC im done, we need to at least throw our hat in the ring for Hardwick. If we wait till end of season, we again end up with the scraps at the table. Go hard early or dont bother at all basically

Why are you done he might think there’s more upside going to GC probably more money and less chance of getting hassled by the media, i mean if you want a reason to be done with Freo look no further than this comp called the AFL theres a reason right there.

If we cant beat Sydney next week i think Longmuir’s coaching tenure will conclude after Geelong in Geelong.
Garlick has just owned up to deliberately throwing Justin under the bus by going younger with their list management. Can't help thinking Bell, Garlick, and Wells should be sacked first
