Justin Westhoff VS Paddy Ryder

Interesting point, but why would Westhoff be a better third tall than Ryder who has played third tall down back and could be a genuine KPP?
Because Westhoff is a smarter player and is already a much better third tall forward. Hell, Ryder has kicked 5 goals in 30 games. Westhoff has 36 in 16.

Ryder has to do a lot of catching up, where Westhoff is already a genuinely performing third tall.

The only edge Ryder has is that he may be able to perform in other positions. But who knows?

Uhh Ryder has played defence which is why he hasn't kicked bags of goals. At the moment he's a CHB.

probably has nothing to do with the fact ryder played the entire 22 games at half back

CHB or loose tall backman?

either way that is answered you shoot yourself.
Hardly. I already said that if you're after a player with more potential to play as a true KPP you might go for Ryder.

As third tall forward, Westhoff is well in front.

Westhoff has been decent but I tend to think its more a flash in a pan due to the team he plays in. Kent Kingsley kicked over 50 goals a few times - doesn't make him a good player. IMO, Westhoff is one of the most over rated young players in the AFL. Westhoff is a developing average player.

Ryder is a developing stud - where Westhoff is alot more limited. I think most recruiting managers would take Ryder over Westhoff by the length of the nullabor. Westhoff got really shown up in the finals for what he is - an average player at best who has been in the right place at the right time, just like Kingsley was for a while when he had a few "statisically great" seasons.

Isn't he a couple of years older than last years draftees? Some people just don't put on muscle, if he is still a twig now, he may be forever.

He does have very good awareness, agility, reactions and skills. I would take Ryder though.

He is a couple years older, but never got a big look in at Centrals (one heck of a squad), we'll see how he looks next year.

A forward who can find the right spots and has natural ability will always be my choice over any defender.

Defenders can be created, forwards are born.

Paddy Ryder is the better player but I'd pick Westhoff before him anyday. However Westhoff will be defined by how much he improves next year, what he did this year means zip if he doesn't get stronger, smarter and develop into a more consistent player in 2008.

It's his first or second year in the system, one good pre-season with an afl side will see him bulk up.

As a forward Westhoff Quite easily, any other position is hard because Hoff hasn't played anywhere else and ryder hasn't performed amazingly anywhere else.

Anyone who watches plenty of football knows that Westhoff currently is a shodow of Ryder, both have potential to be champion KPP, but Ryder has proved he can compete against a variety of opponents. And we all know how often the ball gets past Essendon's midfield and into the backline.

So thats why Westhoff beat Ryder in the Rising Star.

May?

He already his.

He's shown ability in the ruck, forward and back.

36 Goals in 16 games in your first year, yeah that is rubbish.

It's a great performance and he's going to be a fine player.

No doubt the couple of extra years has helped his migration into AFL football.

Tough one, Ryder can play in the ruck and KPP but Westhoff impressed me more this season.
Both have huge upside but Westhoff gets my nod by a whisker.
