In all polls they do, things like paid parental leave, Medicare for all, lifting minimum wage are all very popular.

Because polling has consistently shown this for years, and continues to do so, as we've literally just been discussing. Dismiss that as "vibe" if you will.

It's a common talking point in progressive media, note not the CNNs of the world, where when people are presented with progressive ideas or positions, they are in favour, often even among Republicans.

Progressives then beat their heads against the wall every election cycle when Democrats fail to take notice and run to the centre/right because of donors and conservative media, which includes economic status quo outlets like CNN, who will label them as radical. If Biden and Pelosi types are labelled as radical socialists, you may as well go progressive and win back the working class and left wingers who abstain.

CNN will just point to people not voting for Kamala as being sexist and racist, easier to do that than propose anything more than incremental.

I think polling has taken a hit in the Trump era. He's certainly thrown pollsters for a loop, especially trying to figure out which groups will turn out for him or others. But the idea that they are all radically off is incorrect. Often results are in the margin of error, and perhaps getting a representative sample is more difficult these days, but they give an indication.

If polling on an issue is substantially more towards one side than the other, then sure, the poll might be out a bit, but it still suggests a majority one way or the other.

Hard to quantify, but these would have played a part. I think you're unfortunately pushing up a steeper hill to get elected as leader of a country if you're a woman and/or a minority.

That said, these aren't the biggest factors. Definitely not a flawless campaign.

From what I understand a bit larger sample size than most political polls.

89% vs 48% majority support, it would have to be ridiculously out of whack with about a 20% margin of error to alter the main takeaway - that on a pure policies basis Harris' and the Dems' are clearly more popular once the partisan blinkers are removed.

That a heap of people regularly vote against their own interests in the US isn't all that debatable I would have thought. Another example from 2020;

There'd be some who switched, but would have hurt them with others.

Even in campaigning, while the Dems responded to certain comments about gender and race from Republicans, there was far less attention on race or gender being a factor e.g. than with Obama as first black President or Clinton as first woman ("I'm with her") this time around.
