Hang on - isn't the story we hear that a redeveloped Adelaide Oval will be used in the World Cup?

How can you conclude from that that doing so is not a benefit to Soccer?

It clearly is!

But - it also recognises that Soccer will not be able to pay the bills for this sort of sized Soccer stadium so the main tenants must be the Australian Football clubs.

Afterall - how much did the SA Government put into AAMI Stadium? Weren't they supposed to build a train line out there - how did that go?
It has nothing to do with soccer.

It's about cricket and football, who both get given a new stadium for free. The government have been pumping fair amounts of cash into AAMI for a while. Two big screens, Northern Grandstand and there were plans for a redevelopment. The tram line is still being extended to Port Adelaide FWIW.

The government says it changed its mind because there was more money available than they first expected. Most like though, it's because the liberals proposed a brand new 50k city based stadium. This nullifies that as a serious election issue.

Has nothing to do with soccer.
