Not even a decent Rocky montage could battle that bulge. Long-term project is getting longer, and wider.

Yeah he needs a cuddle, but it'll take a few of us.

Obviously got "goal sneak" and "roll sneak" mixed up. Pull through, mate! We all want to see you play.

Wow, I stand corrected. He's blown out in the last month since I've seen him significantly.

Lmao. Lots of smart ass comments directed at a quoted post, that i was only querying if anyone had any further input on! (not really directed at you but in general).

8kg was obviously the original posters guess and was more meant to get across that he has put on a fair bit of flubber. Not sure why so many take everything to the literal sense of the law on here.

I don't know how that's possible from Kirby when he's presumably doing training. I don't live a healthy lifestyle and it would take me ages to balloon out like that even without exercise.

I'll be disappointed if the club has issued an ultimatum though. There is plenty of time for him to learn how to be a footballer. At least let him play some games which would show him the work he needs to put in if he is going to make it. Supremely talented individuals often require a shock like that to know that talent alone won't get them to the levels they desire.

Poor metabolism, eating lots of icecream, Ham and mayo, beer, not training over 2 weeks off Christmas break, been many training reports he was MIA in too. How many reports do you remember reading that he was at?

Personally I'd have to be heavily on the beers to achieve a gut like that. Heres a pic of him when drafted and heres a training pic, I think from Jan 11

My guess is because its written content and few people know each other so taking it literally is the safe option. The only reason I try to keep an open mind on this stuff is because I've been caught out before (half believing everything you hear is tough though). The next watch area for me is Wells' kick to the calf...

I've been guilty of making a few comments at Mr Kirby's weight.
On reflection looking at his drafting photo and the alleged newish photo there is some cause for corncern but also some cause for a broader perspective.

When drafted he doesn't appear a young skinny kid, much more a young broad strong bull like physical appearance.

It may just be he is predisposed to solidness. It may be his genetics can cause his weight to balloon very quickly.

So he has to obviously work very hard and get smarter in a few areas if he wants his football career to be at the highest level.

Darren Jarman is an example of letting himself go, Derek Kickett as well. Maybe some people are far more likely to balloon out.

That's Kayle's challenge. Let's hope he's up to it.

He needs to be up the challenge. It's piss poor given he is being paid to be an athlete. He is letting himself down more than anyone else.

I think the broader perspective is the cause for concern :p

Swan Hill are pretty much expecting him to be back up there by April. So make of that what you will.

Not much personally given he currently has a contract with the Collingwood football club. By the sounds of your post the two parties have been in contact which I wouldn't appreciate if I were a member of the football department...

It's a fact of life that many AFL footballers hate preseason training and can't wait for the season to start. Swanny never liked preseason training and had to be coerced by his Collingwood teammates to put any effort into his preseason. Kirby seems to me like one of those guys who just hates preseason training. Once the season starts and he gets into the rhythm of playing VFL footy that should all change. He'll run 4-6 km during a VFL game, train 4 days a week and work out in the gym. The weigh should pour off him then. Also playing is different to training. It's a team sport where you learn more about your teammates playing with them more than training with them. I think Kirby is a friendly guy who loves company. He's been thrown into a structured work environment where he doesn't know anybody. A lot of footballers find it extremely difficult to adapt to an AFL club environment which is the most difficult the first year you go there. Sometimes it hits you the second or third year, as it did with Marsh. I think we need to have a bit of sympathy for what Kirby is going through. I would hate to see him waste his talent because you generally only get one opportunity.

He's just big boned like DeGoey. Nothing in it.

So the guy likes a pie or 6. Big deal. Stop with the fat shaming hate talk people. Learn to accept gut size differences. People with larger gut sizes have a lot to offer and they add to our cosmopolitan multi-gutgirth society. Bit of tolerance please.

Thanks for having the GUTS to point that out;)

You should know on some ocassional I do choose words that can be interpreted two or more ways. :D

Then again sometimes it must be my subconscious....

You do make a good point about shaming people.
Always pays to be aware of how that may affect the receiver.

As an aside, I think it's ok to shame Carlton supporters? ;)

From my understanding the jist of it is that he will inform the club he's heart isn't in it or he can't commit to the professional lifestyle.

By mutual agreement the contract will be scrapped.

Happy to be proven wrong and for him to turn it around ala someone like Michael Walters, but that seems an extremely remote possibility.

Probably. I'm speaking from my own personal perspective there. If this is true and he pulls the pin I wouldn't be releasing him to go have a kick around with his mates. He chose to nominate for the draft and we invested resources in him. I'm very strong on clubs enforcing contracts!
