Chris Scott has the best winning percentage of all time (100 games minimum) yet that doesnt mean a section of Geelong supporters want him gone

Hinkley is underrated as a coach in my opinion.

Better win % than 3x premiership coach Hardwick.

He is the man to lead Alberton back to the promised land.

He's been there pretty much a decade. I think he might have lost the directions to the promised land and has instead been wandering in circles the past 7 years.

This fact, and the fact that Port find it hard to beat other top teams, may suggest that Hinkley is getting the most out of an average team rather than, as most Port supporters seem to think, coaching an underachieving team.

Hinkley, Bob Rose and Ross the Boss certainly stand out from that group.

Win/loss percentage can be a misleading measure of success. Chris Scott / Alan Joyce / Buckley take over superstar lists and successful teams …. Hardwick, Clarkson take over basket cases.

So it would be interesting to look at overall win/loss from a coach’s 3rd year and beyond in each of their coaching stints. So their win/loss isn’t impacted positively or negatively from a team’s ability they were not responsible for - good or bad.

I haven’t done the numbers but it would provide a better reflection of win/loss %.

Hinkley is a bit of a simpleton as a coach but the biggest cause of them being only thereabouts is the Port list manager. Robbie Gray is still their best player.
