G'day KM. Interested on your thoughts re Ports first and second picks in the type of player we should target. McCarthy looks a talent but he's very much an unknown which is both exciting and risky.
The Polec trade, should he end up at Port, will alter the draft order and if you were Port would you use pick 13 as part of a Polec trade or is there better talent available than him at 13 whether it be McCarthy or someone else. Thanks.

KM - I know it's likely been asked previously, but have you heard/read anything about who the Blues are eyeing off with their picks atm?

Realistically, Crouch and Lennon will be gone by our first pick at #12 and we'd be crazy to take anything other than a solid midfielder with good skills with our first. Freeman, Salem or even Dunstan look good - but is there any mail on who we'd prefer?

Also - I like Cripps at #29... let's hope he's still around. Lastly, Thorp - what are the chances of him realistically ending up on our doorstep? Can't see him coming to us any earlier than #47 unless we traded in another pick below 40.

Cheers.

sorry if this has already been asked.. I read your write up on Guy Dickson.. you seem to have him going pretty late due to not being noticed that much this year but you believe he has had a very good season.. where you would take him if you were picking players?(not where you think the clubs will pick him)

Knightmare just wondering why you downgraded Gardiner to Sydney's pick? All swans supporters want him

Knightmare, Just on next years draft where would you have Peter Wright?

No.1 at this point if he stays healthy and continues his improvement.

McCartin a close no.2.

I like Polec as a fit for Port. He seems like someone who in that fast paced system would really thrive and he's someone who can come good and really penetrate on a team who can get him the ball.

Pick 13 is around what you're looking at.

Personally I'd favour Cameron McCarthy rather than trading as Polec hasn't done a whole lot to this point.

No specific names but there have been strong suggestions that Carlton want midfielders. There may be more specific rumours once the draft combine come around.

Thorp is a chance for any number of teams. Most teams have sent scouts out to see him play which is usually a good sign suggesting club interest.

Just keep in mind with Thorp he's not a forward you build a front half around. He's more a Jack Watts or Jarrad Grant as a lighter bodied higher leading forward who will find his footy up the ground more.

Possible Melbourne interest in Grey, unless I am reading the last couple of paragraphs wrong:

I assume it's talking Victoria.

I'd take him as a rookie.

Reason being I haven't heard any indications of clubs looking all that closely at him or any suggestions that he goes national draft.

In saying that I'd be comfortable taking him late draft having seen his strong plays for these past two seasons and his form particularly as a forward last year in the APS competition really standing out.

More for balance. You'll get Lloyd Perris as a midfielder later so that key defender with Ted Richards and Heath Grundy not young is a logical choice.

Would there be any knock on his game at all?

Yes he's exactly what we want but we are expecting him to go a little earlier

He's not a midfielder and is likely going to be limited to playing forward/back. He's not a high production player and somone you'll have to live with never getting more than 15 disposals in many games.

He'll go around that selection but unless GWS take him I'm not seeing too many other clubs who will go the key defender over the midfielders available.

Surely GWS has enough key defenders they have taken Jacksch, Corr and Plowman recently

Alec Waterman was BOG in the colts GF won the medal for best on ground.
Souths where red hot favourites but in pretty shit weather Claremont got up.
Souths did win the reserves GF though.

You could also mention Tomlinson as a recently drafted guy then also Phil Davis. Add James Stewart who I also project as a key defender and they've got options.

In saying that only Corr is a pure shutdown key defender and that's why he may depending on their evaluation of those other options be a consideration.

But as I said Sydney are that first club who could really use a key defender.

I'd be very very happy if Gardiner is in a swans guernsey next year

hey KM

we are doing a richmond phantom draft on our board, I have the pies and I was wondering what Collingwood would be after in the draft and some names who I should factor in when making a decision

Hey KM

Do you know of any players who Richmond are really into taking in the draft? Rumours?

Hey KM

Love your work just wondering if you have an opinion on Micheal Gibbons from Bushrangers and NSW. Will he get picked up? I would think he is most likely to get pick up as a rookie but like to know your thoughts

Hey Knightmare I have posed the same question to Chris, just wondering on your thoughts on Freo's first pick? Obviousley our main deficiency is a KPF and we are all hoping for Cameron McCarthey to fall to us. If he is unavailable I would love us to get either Acres or Marsh as they are both real utility type players and both really fit the bill on what we have recruited in previous years. They could both play in just about any position on the ground. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance

I'm like the way Matt Crouch and Dominic Sheed plays. I'd take either if there. Marcus Bontempelli is another I'd be ok with if there. Cameron McCarthy as a key forward is another I'd consider.

Christian Salem has long been connected to Richmond. Whether he's the eventual selection we'll find out on draft day but he may be on the shortlist as a consideration for that selection.

Hey KM.

Gun work with this.

Query - what ex-AFL players (i.e. players previously on an AFL list) do you see being drafted?

Mitch Thorp (ex Hawthorn) and Nathan Gordon (ex Sydney rookie) I expect to both get drafted.

Productive and has had an excellent season.

Just short and a below average kick often trying to do too much which can be the issue.

It's more a case of too many quality smalls this year. Lewis Taylor, Billy Hartung, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Jarman Impey, Orazio Fantasia, Mitch Honeychurch. James Battersby and Zac Merrett aren't tall either so when supply is greater than demand there will always be a few it doesn't end well for.

It makes it hard for the Cavarra's, Chisari's and Gibbons when they'd otherwise be rookie chances.

Darcy Gardiner is plummeting down draft boards. A bit undersized and just doesn't find the ball.

I'm not sure where this notion is coming from. I don't recall any stage where I've had Gardiner inside my top 10. He's always been a 10-20 type with not all that many clubs needing a key defender.

Cameron McCarthy late 1st round would be a solid get for a team looking for a key forward. He's a project and very raw but he's got talent and has the opportunity to be excellent.

Acres around that stage would be a solid get as a tall outside type.

Marsh in the 1st round is a reach. I'd be surprised if he wasn't available in the 2nd round.

With the current trend (Freo) towards bigger mids I will not be surprised to see Marsh picked up earlier than expected. Roos now wants Watts to play mid for that same reason. Roos said he was talking to a Swans player who said Freo's mids looked Ted Richards size.

Mundy is 192 Fyfe 190 and Barlow 189 they are tall

I think it is the way of the future to an extent with more clubs to have tall midfields.

There will be more Richo to the wings in those key forwards who do a Buddy and play up on a wing. And more Roughead's and Pavlich types who going through the guts. Then those Pendlebury/Mundy sized midfielders to become the norm. You'll see it more and more.

That's why a Bontempelli as one example this year may go earlier than he may otherwise have being a rare tall midfielder at 192cm who can develop that midfield game.

Perhaps a Mitch Harvey this year could be recruited to develop into a poor mans Jarryd Roughead to develop into a forward who may with some of his attributes while we haven't seen him given the opportunity, but I don't see why he couldn't develop the ability to pinch-hit on the ball as a big body with the skills, movement and ability when it hits the deck to pick it up cleanly and be in the contest.

But that Fremantle midfield make anyone look small - having quality size (not only quality KPPs but superior size in each position). It helps.
