News Koch blocks Tredders push for the board

You are correct that the club is more stable off field since Koch took charge (although as has been pointed out many times before, some of the things that have made this the case were already in train before Koch arrived).

The concern that many have on this forum is that under Koch's leadership the club has moved further and further away from what might be regarded as the traditional Port Adelaide way of doing things. This would include things like the ruthless pursuit of success, not accepting mediocrity and striving to be the best. A lot of people see the leadership of the club - ie the board and executive - and notice that none of them have ever played for the club or been a part of the club in any serious capacity during the times in which it has been successful. This leads to the question of whether the club has lost a significant part of its identity and, if so, what could be done to regain it.

Tredrea is a Port Adelaide person. He grew up supporting the club, his father played for the club, he played for the club, he captained the club to its only premiership this millennium. He was also a tough, driven, single minded campaigner of a player who played exactly the way Port Adelaide supporters expect their team to play. He knows what the club needs to do to be successful because he's lived it. If you want to dismiss this fact based on the idea that he's 'just an ex player' then go for it, but most people are going to believe that he has value to add.

He literally offers nothing. You could say those things about Sir Donald Bradman and he was a campaigner of an administrator and caused serious rifts at SACA. You allow people like him on the board and you get Mark Riccuto. He hasn't had any serious involvement with the club for 15 years. Here's an article from 2014 that looks at our 2004 premiership team: Class of '04: Where are they now?.

Basically everyone on that list is more qualified to be on the board than Tredrea. I thought I was clear in my post. Whatever your criteria, there is someone better than Tredrea. It would be a sad indictment on our club if the best we could find is 'some guy that won a flag with us 20 years ago, that has had no day to day involvement with AFL for 15 years, has no business experience, has had a massively sheltered existence as a footballer/media personality, and has expressed interest mostly because he has some free time on his hands from being sacked from his previous job'. This is not a anti player thing - Wanganeen was a great appointment. I am sure you can find 1 passionate, successful person, with some AFL credibility who adds more than Tredrea.

He's got one fairly large qualification others don't, and that's a willingness to put himself forward and a desire to sack Ken.

That aside, how was Wanganeen 'a great appointment'?

Isnt it funny how when they all came on they fixed a bunch of little things like members nights, more transparency etc.

Then after they fixed the obvious any dullard could do, they ran out of ideas and regressed.

Very limited.

Members have certainly been treated with less and less respect, and has gone off a cliff since KT left. Hitting rock bottom with members being shut out of the B&F until the uproar. What a shocking representation of where members sit with this leadership team.

There is no way KT would have even let that idea be floated I don't feel.
KT took co-captains to the Board despite knowing full well the members' sentiment. KT can go fly a kite.

Carn. Wanganeen was absolutely an ineffective stooge run solely to keep Fiacchi out.

The nuance too many are losing is that it's entirely possible (reasonable, even) to want Koch and Hinkley (and Richardson, and Jonas) the f*** out of our club without wanting to hitch our wagon to Tredrea instead.

How have you come to these conclusions about Tredrea? Have you spoken to him personally about any of these topics?
Are you aware of what his opinion of the Board in its totality is? Are you aware of what his intentions would be if he were put on the Board as a Director? Are you aware of the financial opportunities that could present themselves by having Warren connected to the Club in a director's capacity?

Unless you've sat down with him and gone through this to reach the conclusions you have, do us all a favour and zip it, because your opinion is completely baseless and unfounded.

If members start voting in numskulls like Tredrea and become a haven for loud mouthed bogans, you probably have nothing to worry about on that front.
Gav was a total waste of space. The opposite of what he was as a player.

Tredders may be a dimwitted fool regarding vaxing, etc but the has a football brain and won't tolerate half heartedness like the 2021 Prelim.

Maybe get him to run the footy section, and move CD to Chairman.

I’d rather the free board position be used on a potential future chairman.
If Tredders wants a spot he will get it at years end and if he wants to help there’s nothing stopping him

The irony of someone with the username PrisonBars4life defending the current admin who have done absolutely nothing to redress the travesty of justice that is the ban on us wearing the Prison Bars.

I am sure appointing Tredrea will make a massive difference in the prison bars debate.

Look I think tredders is a little bit crazy but I %100 back him to be on the board. I back the case for more past legends on the board more die hards more win at all cost types on the board. He. should be a automatic selection not member selected. the current board are not ruthless enough.

Tredrea captained Port Adelaide to our only AFL premiership. Koch's greatest claim to fame in making Hinkley a 10 year coach. Line-ball decision on who has done more for the club really.
On that info - DK by the length of the Nullarbor Plain 🤣🤪

** just need a sarcastia font **

There is more to this than Koch v Tredrea, the media world has turned it's back on Warren Tredrea and now the PAFC has done the same. There have to be reasons. I realise that Tredders took a stance on vaccination but I have to think it was more than that and he has rubbed some people up the wrong way. I wonder if Cos Cardone still has connections at NINE?

I also think it is a tad presumptuous to go to the PAFC door requesting a seat on the Board. These days the majority of Board Members appear to be appointed with an area of expertise in mind, albeit that these areas of expertise are sometimes clouded but under the current system the Board has the right to choose subject to AFL endorsement. If I had my way the entire Board would be elected by the Members but that is not the way it is done and we have to live with the system that exists.

The media will beat this up for all it is worth but we should not let it develop into a crisis that we do not need, if Warren Tredrea wants a seat on the Board there are ways of getting it done provided Tredders and those who support him are prepared to wait.
