Don't know why anyone would be writing them off. If they're now participating in full contact training the match committee must see them as viable options this year because if they didn't they'd just be told to get their pre-season started.

We're bound to get further injuries or suspension this year so to potentially have three more players to choose from can only be a positive.

Story in Herald Sun this morning.

HOBBLED Magpies Andrew Krakouer and Brent Macaffer have been cleared to resume full contact training in a massive boost to their hopes of September action.

The pair received the green light from specialists on Wednesday, when they joined in tackling and bumping drills for the first time since both had knee reconstructions in February.

Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh last night described the return to full contact training as "very heartening".

I'm nervous just thinking about it, hope the boys are doing ok. Let's hope everything is successful in their returns and they take it slowly as to not get injured again.

if the surgeon keeps clearing them, no need to hold them back, krakouer and johnson could be really handy for us.....
kraks could help us win the flag
i'd say its a near certainty they'll play some football at some level.....
afl is the only sport in the world that treats knee reco's so consertively......in soccer they're back in 4-5 months...I know afl is more taxing but with the advances in surgery, rehab facilities etc recovery periods should be decreasing

If they get thru a few weeks of full training without pulling up sore & then get some VFL game time & build some match fitness, they would be 3 great depth players to call upon in September, if required.
It would be difficult for them to force another player out of the 22 by season end, however other injuries or suspensions may bring them into the mix.
I hope they make it. We need 27-28 footballers ready to go come September.

Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. Big game this weekend hopefully the pies win in a canter but so rarely happens. Grab the four points like a thief in the night and soar to the top of the ladder!!

The point to my post is to ask how do you fancy krakouer will perform coming back after his knee? Also can anyone give insight as to where krakouer disappeared after half time in the grand final last year? Match ups perhaps. He is an MCG specialist and having seen him in the yellow and black on a wet day in 2006 its comforting to have him in the black and white. Hopefully in the long term.

Good luck to Mac and Johnno too. Bloody good players who would get a game at any club and hopefully stick around for a bit longer....

Just on this. Who exactly decides when a player is fit to return? I'm sure the player, players manager and club all could at times have different plans and motivation as to the timing of a return.

If these guys had 3 year contracts would they be pushing so hard this year? Who's at fault if this goes bad?

slow news day. our apparel deal making the news on TFS (didnt see it) says theyve got nothing else to report, so go with rehashed stories. they are doing what is essentially a pre season now. then rest, then do it again, then rest. and then its october.

Indeed. Third rebirth of this story.

It would be great if we could even have them in the mix. Krakouer in particular is the sort of played that can turn a game. You need those in the finals.

It's an interesting question. His game isn't built on explosive speed or athleticism rather instinct and skill. In that regard you think he'll go ok coming back. But I guess a lot will depend on the effort he puts into his rehab.

Not sure about your comment about him fading out in the granny after half time. It was his third quarter that kept us close and if the result was different would have gone down as the turning point in the game.

Welcome to the board mate!

Yeah perhaps you are right. Krakz probably did the little things and because I work at the ground with my back to the game probably makes it a little difficult to notice anything else other than the goals he kicked. I certainly know sidebottom played out of his skin. Not hard to realise he is a massive talent having kicked a bag of ten in a TAC cup grand final. Be nice if he could do that on grand final day this year but in all honest split ten amongst clokey, dawesy and taz and I would be laughing ;)

Macaffer is a player I am worried about. Although this is hypothetical is it perhaps a risk that he might leave after this season to play elsewhere? With the salaries of Beams and Clokey and him having played so little since the grand final. He is a super talent Macca and he could get a game at an Essendon or Carlton or North Melbourne. Loved his work in those crucial games in 2010 and he is extremely underrated. Hope he stays but what sort of asking price would we be looking at if he was forced out the door?

Excuse my speculation gents. I would love to see the current player group stay together :thumbsu:

macaffer is overrated not underrated... his made to look a lot better than what he was thanks to teammates.

If he was playing for melbourne he'd be the new bate. His not that good, just a good solid depth player, a less skilled but older jamie elliot

Disagree with this. It's easy to forget how good he was in the second half of 2010. Playing as a lead up forward he is at worst a difficult match up for the opposition to come up with - he is mid sized, very strong and fast. Very similar to Crameri imo and he causes all sorts of problems. Anyway at that stage in 2010 he was giving us goals, another forward leading target and quality defensive pressure. Basically doing what Goldsack is trying to do now but at a much higher standard. I think he was been a huge out for us since then - really want him back

You are comparing a premiership player to some Melbourne spud, hard to take seriously after that

Whatever you think of Caff and what he was like, you have to respect a player who has kept himself going through two seasons worth of injuries.

He got himself back in top shape after last season's injury setback.

He looks like he's keeping himself in good shape during the current injury setback.

When he does return he's going to be mighty hungry and determined.

The red prawn!! He is like Aaron davey that bloke. A bit of a spud. I think davey ran out of petrol tickets a long time ago. Then they recruited some hack like Mitch Clark who I am dirty on for kicking four on queens birthday against us. Now without being any more derogatory of the mighty dees they really are rubbish. Just look at Simon Buckley when he first came across. Speaking of buckley does anyone think he will ever develop further and provide that drive off half back because he certainly has the potential. Fit young bloke and lovely long right slipper.

As for Macca I saw a lot of his games in 2010. He kicked a few backs and the double in the second grand final. I agree with the comparison to goldsack now. The human scrotum is just getting the job done while Clokey is on his season long hiatus getting his contract negotiations in order. I reckon Clokey will clunk a few this afternoon. Can just feel it after last night with the tomahawk ripping essendon a new one. If Macca comes back I hope and krakouer play a major part the same with johnno. That would leave ball out of the side and beamsy and rusty have more than stepped up in his absence.

Get around yarra park today lads or warm up your remotes!! Whatever you are doing just hope our prayers will be answered. We are members of the Collingwood faithful and church comes early this week. Floreat pica!

We don't have another Macaffer on the list, that big bodied runner that can play dummy full forward or high half forward and even on the ball.. yes Elliott may turn into that player but right now he's got 7 games under his belt

I'm just as excited about Ben Johnson resuming training as I am at the prospect of getting Mac n' Krak back. (Goddamn I love alliteration).

That's assonance/consonance.
