So it’s bagging a player when you don’t condone his actions. 🤔 I don’t think it’s a good look when someone punches a bloke in the back of the head, do you?

Posted on another thread but I think it’s relevent here: from Fly’s presser “We're not here to go back in time and go 'oh we want to play like we did last year', that's not us. That's done.”
As more astute posters than I have pointed out, we have changed our game plan a bit and in hindsight this maybe the reason behind a seeming lack of cohesion at the start of the season and some of our players a bit inconsistent. Schultz is settling in fine I think considering that for him it’s also a new club. It was a silly brain fade to get him suspended sure, even Pendles had one v Brisbane.
Did we overpay, get the wrong player, God knows and I don’t have direct line. Passionate views either way which is fine but the trade is done and dusted.

I see that Hawks fans could not be happier with Ginnivan's contribution to their win. He is being praised for his last quarter, his 5 tackles, his determination to maintain control of the ball from the clearances and the goals he kicked. They love him at Hawthorn, particularly the fact that he is a natural footballer. Meanwhile our bloke is still 'settling in', 'getting used to a new system' and also now suspended for trying to hit someone a meter away from him. I know who got the best deal from those two trades, and it wasn't us.
north we’re pretty happy with stevo and the 30 touch games on the wing he was producing in his first season with them, give it time.

I would have been disappointed if the coaches thought they could challenge for b2b by keeping the same game plan.

I'm loving our extra emphasis on pressure & tackling. And our willingness to move players around & try different things.

It was nothing more than a free kick. Stupid decision by the MRO.

Schultz is doing the job he was recruited for.
Don’t care what Ginnivan is doing.

We will see I guess, just think it’s a bit premature to call it.

Overall Ginnivan is not performing better than Schlutz. Same goals, Schultz more tackles and pressure.

Made up for it apparently in the last quarter when it really mattered.
Having watched the entire game I’ll happily comment TGG. Did sfa for 3 quarters. You’d be calling him out in our match day thread if he was playing for us.

Last quarter. He took a mark in the pocket and kicked a nice snap goal. His best play of the game.

Outside of that, he chip kicked 20m backward to slow down play. Wow… and one other play Jumped on ground and handballed out.

His tackles were nothing more than pack tackles in congestion in the forward 50. He doesn’t chase and without ball hand offers nothing. Which in our team is not good enough.

To say he had a great game is taking the piss.

Playing group wanted Jack gone, doesn't really matter what you think, their needs trump yours.

The comparison though is with Schultz.

If you accept Schultz is an upgrade on Ginnivan, and I don't, then you have to take into account the cost. Collingwood have given up a first round pick for a player who on current performance is a marginal improvement.

Can all the campaigners that come on here bagging Schultz STFU or GTFO? It's ******* depressing coming on here after a great win and seeing our own bag a player. You're all a bunch of entitled, useless c**ts. See how harsh that comes across?

You would think we learn a thing or two from our coach, who excels in getting behind his 44 sons. How about we show him a bit of support and not continually put him down? Schultz annoyed the hell out of me to no end on Friday night, but we got the win and he's getting a week off so it's fine.

Can we please give him 12 months like we did with Lipinski, Hill, McStay, Frampton, Mitchell and Markov?

You’ve also got to remember Schultz wanted to come back home cause he was dealing with family/personal issues. Who’s to say he's not still dealing with that at the moment? If you want to complain about the currency we gave up for him, go to the Graeme Wright thread and bag Wrighty, because Schultz had nothing to do with it.

You can all come to me if you don’t agree with me, I'll be more than happy to take you all on.

If we’re changing our game plan, then the adjustments should be more challenging for the whole group, not just Schultz.
There’s definitely a settling in period for him, to take into account, but overall, the signs aren’t particularly positive.
I know how Jack after would describe him.

He also got filmed doing illegal stuff, went to the races on grand final eve and he allegedly like to film others doing private things. He is a good player but not a team player. Schultz is an upgrade, both as a bloke and a player.
We’ll get Hawthorn’s second round for the trade which is likely to be around pick 30. Hopefully they won’t have too many more wins and finish bottom 4

Fair enough though I think the team as a whole may have struggled with the adjustments early on. Team now seems to be gelling and who knows maybe the indiscretion hurts him as it did Jack if that’s the Jack you are referring to. In card terms I’ll see your “ not particularly positive” with a “ not particularly negative” 👍

I think it was a Jack Dyer, "good average player" reference.

You’re looking at it wrong. The coach said we want to be different this year. Part of that it pressure, particularly tackles.
Schultz contributes to that.

Did they want him gone? First time I have heard that. I like Ginnivan. He was a character, an individual, and there are not too many of that type still left in the game.
Mate, he’s gone.
We need to move on

Those draft picks are good - they are the result of us playing in 4 prelims and another final series where we won a final in those 6 years.

You missed my point re expectations on them all being "first rounders" when it's really a lot of early seconds for most.

As to what you stated, yes winning a flag was great, but looking at where our list sits moving into the future the lack of high end down there is a concern.

They were first rounders, but with Academy selection, father son and free agency compensation a top 4 team's first rounder is rarely in the first 18 picks anymore - they're not great picks. The only year you listed that we didn't pick up a first round player was 2019 - but in 2020 we drafted 2 - Henry and Macrae.

I think our list is good for another couple of flags in the next 4 years. In 4 years time we would've added players and still have the nucleus of a very good side. Things can turn very quickly, before this weekend it was all doom and gloom, but all of the sudden, we have HH and Sullivan looking like they will be around for years. Trying to predict anything in today's football environment is a waste of time. Things are done differently and recruiting is changing, especially when you have powerful interstate acedemies. The draft isn't viewed as being the only way to be successful. We are doing it, as are Geelong and others will do it until Tassie comes in. We are just fine

Hard to warm to a bloke who punches people from behind.

“People”… a Carlton player you mean. And it was a love tap ffs.

You got something to say about Denis Banks on Rhys Johns then do ya?

It was an undisciplined act, one he will learn from and hopefully not retaliate in future.

Having said that, he’s got some mongrel in him and won’t let opposition stand over him.

Blake Acres was a team mate of Schultz at Fremantle too, so maybe they don’t like each other.

I like a player that stands up for himself. Need more like him.
