Yep good news as he knows his stuff and I think he will work really well with Matty and the other support staff.

Seems to me a more close knit group (coaching staff) who I think can work better as a team and probably criticise constructively when required compared to how I see that Chocco may have gone about things ie:

Anyway, thats it so bring on draft day now...... :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Laidley's also great value on the 5CC sports show - he ruthlessly cuts down cRowie when he utters something stupid. He's our revenge on the tweedles.

PS speaking of cRowie, looks like he was around the mark when he said that Port were looking at a ball-movement/protection type role for the coaches (while still maintaing line roles).

That's a very good move to retain Laidley. Despite whatever shortcomings he has, Laidely is a proven head coach and strategist. By keeping Laidley in the box, Primus has a distinguished character to help guide the team.

For those who know my preference to have Peter Rohde moved on he should be commended (in conjunction with Matthew Primus) for retaining Dean Laidley as a Port Adelaide man in 2011.

Fanstastic news.

I think Dean will come into his own in a Choco-less coaching box.

Despite our obvious financial shortcomings, it says a lot about our Club to have two legends of the game in Laidley and Hocking come into the Club from interstate and really fall in love with the place.

Well said.

I was ambivalent about Laidley moving on but very glad that he's staying.

He is the sort of character that will thrive in the Port Adelaide club environment, even if it is somewhat remotely.

As for him not being offered the job he wanted, there might be a bit of truth to that but don't discount the fact that he still chose to take ours.

and he can certainly do that job over the phone from Victoria. full time.

.... I guess he didnt get the offer he was looking for in Melbourne.....
Clearly not the Essendon or Geelong senior roles, and really only the Geelong role went to a genuine open tender. I don't know if he was open to taking an assistant role at a Victorian club and whether he was asked to take one up, or applied for one.
Apart from career reasons we need to remember his family are in Melbourne and he commutes to them/us (depending on your perspective). At least that was the case at the start of his 2010 appointment.
I'm glad we have him back this year. Matty is no nong but he still very much has his L plates on and we need as much non-Port perspective as we can get.

Great news for the club. Onwards and upwards for us in 2011.

Us???????????

When did this change of heart happen?

As long as you buy memberships it's all okay

As for JYD, it's an excellent appointment.

Dean Laidley commits to Port Adelaide

DEAN Laidley has committed to continue as a Port Adelaide assistant coach after missing out on head coaching jobs in Victoria.

Laidley cited personal reasons for returning to Melbourne at the end of the 2010 season, but will now split his time between Adelaide and Melbourne next year. Laidley unsuccessfully applied for the senior coaching job at Essendon, filled by James Hird.

The former Kangaroos coach was also believed to be a candidate for an as yet undetermined director of coaching role with the Bombers. But Port on Wednesday said Laidley would continue at the South Australian club next year, spending four days a week in Adelaide and the other three in Melbourne.

Laidley, who joined Port last season, will be the Power's midfield coach - a role he performed in the last seven rounds when Matthew Primus replaced Mark Williams as senior coach.

Camporeale's comments now make sense. He wanted the mid-field job and went to the Cows when got offered the gig. I think he had no need to mention the fact that he had the choice of the two clubs.

Clearly Matty was hoping that his association with Dean could continue because of the great results they had in such a short time. I can only imagine what they will achieve next year.

what's the deal, your posting is all slagging our club off like a crow except it seems you don't like them either, now you're saying "us"? go back to bay 13 and the nintendo v sega thread chump

Can we say assume we have gone from

Choco, Laidley, Matty P, Kingsley, Cripps

to

Matty, Laidley, Hocking, Cripps.

In AFL standards that a small coaching box surely? Not that, that it a bad thing.

Also Rhode on AA said we are 1/2 a coach down on last year, poor Choco, that is sooooo mean lol

In 2009, and numerous years before, we had;

Choco, Matty P, Kingsley, Cripps

and now we have;

Matty, Laidley, Hocking, Cripps.

So 2011 will be the same as 2009. 2010 was actually the odd year our when we had the extra coach.

Given our financial constraints having a senior coach and three assistants seems quite reasonable. I don't know how you measure ROI on another assistant. Personally I prefer to see quality than quantity.

:D

I believe he was referring to Laidley's role last year.

Ohh was he hahah (It was a joke)

As for quality greater than quantity I agree completely, how many ball throwers do we need?
