He's got a very high almost English backlift but importantly he plays very straight and is as good a driver of the ball as anyone in Australia. Just as importantly if not more he's very patient and likes getting big tons.I've never seen Alex Doolan bat, what's he like? On paper he looks to be a good player.
From what you've said there he sounds like a Sarwan type? Fair comparison? He's got a very high almost English backlift but importantly he plays very straight and is as good a driver of the ball as anyone in Australia. Just as importantly if not more he's very patient and likes getting big tons.
Yep pretty close - doubt he has the shit in him that Sarwan has. From what you've said there he sounds like a Sarwan type? Fair comparison?

Maxwell isn't a spinning allrounder. He is the worst spinner I have ever seen. My goodness, even Finch is a better spinner then Maxwell!I would pick Lyon in Adelaide, Sydney and possibly Melbourne
I would pick a spinning all rounder such as Maxwell in Brisbane and Perth, and use them in Tandem with Steve Smith

The West Australian was suggesting Mitch as a possibility later in the series
The good old west!
I am tipping Mitch for a huge Shield season though, he really impressed me the other day. It wasn't so much the making runs against a Test attack seeing as the pitch was flat, but the way he made the runs and carried himself. Reckon he is 100% focused on his batting.

If Langer can't get them right then no one will - LCRT - Last chance to race truly for Shaun and Mitch - despite only being a kid could also end up in the same boat. Amazing that the kids of a bloke who got evereything out of his ability through hard work produces two exceptionally gifted kids with question marks over the area that made their old man into a great player.
you've somewhat ruined the parody thread i had planned if north happened to perform well in the next gameMarcus North plz Invers

I'd prefer Bailey but i'd take that, Hughes back where he belongs and 4 righties in the middle order who can all play spin pretty well (Clarke and Smith are world class)
Doesn't look good but just keeps making runs.
Going by that not sure you have either Eth.
If there is one thing Doolan does its look good making runs. His one flaw is he can throw it away when he has the bowling beat.
He's so much like Mark Waugh it ain't funny. Like for like.
Yet funnily enough his first class bowling average is 35 compared to Lyons 38 (stats mostly in Aus). And his strike rate is better too.Maxwell isn't a spinning allrounder. He is the worst spinner I have ever seen. My goodness, even Finch is a better spinner then Maxwell!
I'm pretty confident the bowling lineup for Brisbane will consist of Harris, Siddle, Johnson & Lyon. That won't be an easy attack to face especially if there's a bit of pace and bounce on offer. I haven't been Johnson's biggest fan over the years but with a number of injuries I think he's definitely the next best option we have.
I'd say Haddin, Clarke, Rogers, Warner & Smith are all locks to play. If Watson doesn't get up then I think the timing is perfect for Alex Doolan to make his debut at 27 years of age he should be just about to enter his prime. Phil Hughes will take the other batting spot.

I actually think Watson would be a big loss for us, his batting game is built for hard Australian pitches & his bowling is more than handy.
Centuries by Australian batsmen avaliable for selection

Not a bad average compared to that lot and does provide leadership and spin
