Why not give Hughes an extended run, starting from the Gabba. He has loads of talent, he is good around the dressing room, he isn't up himself, and would do anything for the baggy green. I remember prior to that Sri Lankan selection last summer, he went away and changed his technique big time, he went off to South Australia for a new start, and got himself going, and he is starting to really show signs that he will be a star at international level.

It feels like he is a confidence player. A few big scores, internationally, and reckon he could cement his spot in the team because he is such a talent. Little annoyed he hasnt done it so far but worth another chance.

The blind love for Hughes is staggering.

Time and time and time again he has proved himself not up to Test standard.

The default response for Hughes supporters is basically that he's less rubbish than the other alternatives. Inspiring stuff.

Yes he is. He would have cemented it in the Ashes had he not been constantly moved around the order.

He'd do anything to play test cricket for Australia, give him a proper chance for once...

How is it 'blind love' for Hughes?

He was our best shield batsman last year (besides Ponting), makes an 80 odd not out and played really well in the first ashes test, then they move his batting position the next three tests and drop him.

Give him one position and the whole ashes and we will see how good he is.

warners last red ball ton was a year ago and very irrelevant

The difference is I am not using his form from a year ago to justify Warner's selection. However, if I was inclined I'd point out Warner was beter in the Ashes, has a superior record in Australia, and at very least is seeing the ball far better than Hughes is right now.

I didn't reference his form from a year ago. However, if I was inclined I'd point out Warner looked far more comfortable in the Ashes, has a better record in Australia, and at very least is seeing the ball far better than Hughes is right now. Who do you think is better?

you must have been watching a different ashes series to me.

We have to pick players on one day form, because cricket Australia are run by a pack of idiots.

Coming up to the biggest test series we play and we have little/no exposed shield form to pick players on. So we either have to use the current one dayers or form from 8 months ago.

That's why we are so bad at the moment. The CA board would rather money in their pockets over a good build up to the ashes.

that they were both shit over there. hughes deserves a longer go at it. fair dinkum they have just thrown him in and thrown him out like laundary

So you want Hughes to get a longer go, and to make this happen you want Warner's time cut short?

They have played a similar number of games and Warner has a better record, particularly in Australia. There is no reason whatsoever to think Hughes will give us more chance of winning the Ashes.

basing this on what

Warner's a better batsman, fielder and bowler (even though that shouldn't come into calculations with Smith in the side). His record in Australia is 12 tests, 887 runs @ 49, with 3 hundreds. Hughes' record in Aus is 9 tests, 408 runs @ 24 with no centuries
